i cant take this any longer!!! the pain is excruciating, have taken pain killers, anti inflammatories and nothing is helping! every time i breath in, my inflamed ribs cry out, i can sit still in a chair and my legs and arms are desperate for attention. my back is all knotted, my heart is still aching, and there are constant tears at the back of my eyes!!!!! MY BODY IS SUCH AN ATTENTION SEEKER!!!!

despite going to the rheumy yesterday, and explaining the pain(it wasnt as bad yesterday as it is today) it has not gone away, and has got worse! he couldnt really help me, although he upped my metho dosage!!!

i led a very complex series of activities today in my school for over 400 children. because i had planned the day and had to lead a large part of it, i could not call in sick!! every move i did was difficult, but i could not show the students or staff that i was in pain!!! i came home and cried for ages and ages!!!

please, please, someone tell me wat i should do!!! am at a loss!!!

thanks for reading that sob story-hope it made sense....

Hi Shelly

It sounds like a stress reaction to your activities day - the planning and worry rather then the day itself. It seems that your lupus is being exacerbated by stress. All I can suggest is to try to minimse it...

Have you tried something like Naprosyn? I always found it good when my lupus was very active.

Do hope that you feel better soon.

that was quick!! i must tell you that i dont get stressed from these kinds of days, i organise grand activities often, because that is kind of teacher i am!! i wasnt particularly stressed about it at all, or i dont think i was anyway! it was extremely successful (if i can say so myself!)

have been naproxen in past, it stopped working, but i started it again yesterday-im wondering if that is causing this druggied feeling i am experiencing..

Hi Shelly

I can't offer any advice, but I read your post and can relate to how you are feeling, I get Plerisey and rib pain allot. I hope the metho helps and you feel much better soon. Sounds like you had quite a day, I think some much needed rest might help.

Hugs Jude:)

Hi Shelly,

Stress doesnt necessarily mean emotional stress when we talk about it here.............it can mean physical stress too. All take their toll on a body already under fire.

Hopefully the increased Metho dosage will help out once it kicks in , try and take it easy if thats possible.

love

Dear Shelly,
Well, you certainly don't sound like your normal self!
Although you can obviously try to relieve the symptoms it is unfortunate that most lupus meds actually take a while to kick in and sometimes doses and medications need to be altered so it can be a while to get settled on the best meds for you. I know this is not what you want to hear but it may be worth remembering that Lupus treatment can take a while, so things will get better than this sometime , hopefully soon.
X Lola

If your rhemo couldn't help with meds, pain killers being changed, etc. can you get to a pain clinic if they have in your area?

No one should be in such pain and Maybe call your rhemo again and tell him that you cannot take it anymore and maybe some other type of pain med would help more.

thanks all!!!

went to work this morning, but literally could not talk above a very low voice because of the pain in ribs-not an ideal situation when leading an assembly, and then teaching.... left at lunch time due to inability to stay any longer

called the rheumys secretary, who consequently spke to rheumy, who advised that i come in and see him again!!!!! i am lucky to have private insurance - £110 per 10 minute session!!!!!! not sure he is able to do anything for me, but at least i am trying!!

will let you know what he says! appreciate your support-cant tell my family because they dont really understand!!

feel good

ok im back from the rheumy!!!
he said it is quite a bad case of costochondritis... told him i cant cope with pain, hurting me to breath deeply, talk loud etc

he gave me another cortizone injection-when he took out the needle it squirted blood all over his well-pressed trousers:lol: im nasty i know, but....

he also gave me tramadol, told me to call in sick (which i wont...) and said i should fone him tomorrow to update him!! i dont like this pain at all-seems to restrict my movements much more then other pain!

well, with naproxen, methotrexate, tramadol, omol........(dunno wat its called), panadol ultra and cortizone in my body, i hope that the pain might subside....

good night people

Tramadol is good stuff. I take it. But you SHOULD call in sick. I know you don't like to. But you need to give your body a little rest so it can get back in working order. A day or two now may save a lot of damage and more days later. Seriously... take the next couple of days and then you will have the weekend too. My best friend is a 2nd grade teacher, I know you don't like to do it... but it can AND SHOULD be done!

Ok, I'm off my soapbox now. I hope you know that was all for your own good :)

i actually hate tramadol because it makes you feel really sick-but he gave me anti-sick tablet, so maybe that will help!!! ur right, i should take off work, and i know it, but my class are having their SATs in a couple of weeks so it is a really crucial time for them! it would be unfair for them to have to have a subsitute at this time!!!! i'm just so dedicated what should i say!!!! (and im substituting tomorrow in my free lesson so no free time at all:sad:

am scared of feeling really drugged actually!! dunno if i will even be able to talk-couldnt today!!!

thanks for that little act tho:-)

Hi Shelly, yep, I would deffinatley say that yougot your body into
overdrive, and lupus is supposed to keep things slow. What you need, and don't put this off till xmas, isno less than three days of
"Shelly-Time". eat choclate, don't get dressed for two days, just be a real lump. Believe me, it is good for the soul. I do wish you all the re-coup rest that you deserve. now go eat ice cream out of the
carton. hugs.
