I know that I have Lupus(SLE). I also have Raynaud's & Sjogrens. I was 25 years old when I was told that I had Lupus. I started out with a sore throat, fever which I never could get over. It eventually turned in to double pneumonia. I was in the hospital for two months. I was told when I was 33 that I had sjogrens. I just found out this past December that I have Raynuads. I have just found out today that I have mitral valve prolapse. From what I have read it could run in families or because of my Lupus. I have been dealing with Lupus for the pas 16 years. The first 5 years were really bad. The past 10 years have been good. But since Decebmer my Lupus is flaring up and now I have to learn to live with to more problems. Does anyone have any suggestions about Raynaud's and or mitral valve prolapse.

Hello
My wife has much the same problems as you listed.
With the Mitral Valve Prolapse it has not been that much of a problem.
She just keeps up with her check ups to help insure that it gets no worse and takes the Medication that was recommended for her.
She has to tell the Dentist about this because they need to give her antibiotics to take prior to any procedures in case there is bleeding.
A mouth has alot of bacteria and if it gets in the blood stream it can attach to the damaged valve and cause further damage.
Thats what our Dentist has explained to us anyway.
For the raynauds it is a little harder to handle but she has found tricks that help such as keeping a set of gloves by the freezer so she can put them on when getting stuff out and help keep her hands warm.

Hi
I also have raynauds and have had it for about 2 years. I still haven't managed to find a way to control it completely. The key things that help abit for me are to keep my feet warm (wearing thermal socks) and a good pair of gloves in cold weather. Air conditioning is something that causes mine to flare up alot. I also have heat pads, hot water bottles....everything you could think of!
There is a good webiste that someone on here recommended to me: www.raynauds.org.uk
I think there are also tablets you can take in the winter months that help by thinning out the blood but I was getting side effects so stopped taking them.
Hope I've been of some help!

:) Hi there, I am going on to be, weeell, just say headed towards
old. Mitral valve prolaps can or can not run in families. for your mitral valve, make sure that it is always on your medical folder, and tell the dr. that you have it if you ever have an operation, as they will give you more antibiotics. I've had it all my life= no biggie.
as for the raynauds, just try anything to keepyourself warm.
I wish you the best. If you need anything else, just ask.
