Hi everyone!
I haven't posted is quite some time. Has anyone here ever had their finger swollen, not at the joint, but between the nuckle by your palm and the middle nuckle?
I have had this from time to time, but this time it is really hanging on. It is like a hard lump on the palm side of my index finger. It is painful to touch it and I can't put my hand in a fist because of the pain and swelling.
I remember these coming and going in the past (not always the same finger) but usually the sx is gone after 2 -3 days.
Anybody got any ideas?
Josie

Josie, I think that , for me anyway, its happens more towards the latter part of the day, after the hand has been working too much. When it begins, take a break then, and come back to what you were doing later. If it works, you know that was your problem. good luck.

This is not going away when I rest my hand. In fact, it seems to be getting more painful. There is like a hard knot in my finger. I want it to go away but I'm kind of hoping it is still there when I see my rheumy next Thursday. Since this type of thing comes and goes, and this time it's been here for quite awhile, I hope he can see it and tell me what it is.
Thanks for answereing my question!
Josie :)

;) Hi Josie
There could be lots of reasons for a lump suddenly appearing and it may be something or nothing. Its always best to have your GP check these things out. It could be a tissue problem or perhaps a bone spur? An xray might help to work out what is causing it. I came across this link which might be of some use?

Just a suggestion. I would take a picture of it while its there just in case it disappears and reappears ten minutes after your appointment;)
I hope you get it sorted soon. Let us know the outcome.

Josie,
If I were you I would take a picture of it to show your rheumy. That way if it does go away before your appt. you can show him what it looked like as you describe it. I know pictures are not as good as seeing it first hand but at least he could see it. Just a thought.
Hope your feeling better,
Janice

I brought this topic back up because for the last couple of days I too have funny lumps just where you describe. Did you show them to the rheumy? What did they say?

Just a thought to throw out there............yes, it very well could be inflammation. I have had it and it hurts like no other. But the other thought that it could be is Gout. Yes, normally you would put your toes and gout together, but actually gout can occur in any joint. It is mainly seen in the toes, but has been seen in the fingers, etc. I read somewhere that gout is common with AI's. Again, just a thought.
