I'm so swollen today my skin on my abdomen is tearing. (that hurts btw) My back has been hurting so I called my dr. who called in macrobid because he assumes it is another kidney infection. Yesterday I didn't do anything but sit at the computer and today I woke up so swollen I was short of breath. I took the lasix, been tired all day, even my eyes are swollen. The lasix took off a lot of it, but I'm still swollen. I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired. Even when I'm careful I get into trouble.

I'm so sorry that you are having a horrible day. I wish that I could tell you why these things happen but I can't. There are days that I feel just like you "tired of being sick and tired"! I cry on my mother's shoulder alot not to mention one of my best friends. It's very comforting to know that I am venting to 2 people that really understand what I am going through. They may not be able to take the pain away but just listening to me is helping me. It is extremely frustrating when the old you was a go getter and now you have to ask someone to go get it for you! I will pray for you.
Hang in there. God Bless You!

You poor dear! I really understand your pain because when I started gaining the 70 pounds that prednisone put on me...it made my skin on my abdomen stretch and break too. Sooooo sorry you have this to deal with.
I'm no doctor, but are you drinking plenty of water or fluids that will flush through you? I'm thinking of your swollen ankles and feet. Also keep them elevated. That's about all I can think of.
I read an earlier post you wrote, but my brain can't remember...did you see your doctor? Or just call him? Well, take care of yourself.

I have been away for a bit and just saw your post.
I do hope that the swelling is down by today.
Are you ok now?
Sending get well wishes your way.
Really, you need to see a doctor in person and **be evaluated**. He assumes it's a kidney infection but it may not be, and then you'd be treating the wrong thing! If your doctor can't see you for 3 weeks, then find someone that can - please?

Well, I'm still in pain. Running a low fever. I have a headache. My GP still can't get me in. If it's that bad go to the ER they say. I don't think I need to go to the ER.
I have a question for you all. Does the rheumatologist deal with this sort of stuff? I wondered about calling him tomorrow with it, or if they would just tell me to see my GP? I don't want to wear out my welcome with him, thinking I'm complaining. The macrobid is doing nothing.

You know what? I would call the rhemo. It cannot hurt. Tell him that gp can not see you, etc. and mabye they can.
If not, I tend to see this as an emergency situation. If you are that swollen and your skin is tearing and you think it is your kidney, that is nothing to fool around with and is an emergency.
I know you don't want to go, but I think it is time. Why suffer and put yourself into a dangerous situation.
The Macrobid may not be working for a few reasons.
One is if you don't have a kidney infection.
The other is if the kidney infection you have is resistant to that antibiotic.
I have frequent UTI's, kidney infections. I see a Urologist because my Rheumy was worried because it was rarely the same bacteria growing everytime. My urine tests are always sent for "culture & sensitivity." This shows which bacteria is growing and which antibiotic is best for it.
I have been on different antibiotics , depending on the culture.
Your swelling, is that something new/ sometimes it can be a reaction to a new med. I could never take Celebrex or Vioxx because i would swell so much.
I hope some of this info helped.

I called the GP today because the rhuemy isn't in on fridays
He had me go to the hospital to get a urine test so they could send it away. He put me on doxycyline in the meant time. There are so many drugs I can't take. I'm trying to find ways to be comfortable until something works.
