Hi,
I was wondering if anybody could tell me the following
- is it typical for a lupus facial rash to be worse at night
-is it typical for the rash to be much more pronounced for approx an hour after having a hot bath/shower?
The reason I ask is because I suspect I have lupus even though it hasn't shown up on my blood tests, and I have a rash which follows the above pattern, along with many other symptoms. ( I have a long term diagnosis of M.E., and have only recently been investigated for lupus.)
Thank you for your help
Jodie

Is it worse after being in the sun or under fluorescent light? That would be quite significant.
In my own case before diagnosis I also had a terrible rash on ankles and feet. I did not realise until I saw a photo of this on a Lupus site that it can happen there too.
My skin responded well to treatment. I still flush badly and get itchy forehead but it is nothing to how it was.
I think a hot bath would bring mine up though.
Hope this helps a little!
I know that getting hot (outside temperature or bath) causes my face to turn extremely red. Also, many with Lupus can not tolerate heat which can cause the facial rash or redness to worsen. Hope this helps.:wink2:

no, i gotta say that the shower or getting hot does not make my lupus rashes any redder.
I get the typical vasculitic rash, which is very red, it would be hard (impossible) for it to get any more red I think because the colour is so high already
just what happens for me

Hi Jodie,
I have noticed that my rash is slightly worse after getting out of the shower.
Not really at night though.

I really notice the redness on my face getting worse when I'm under fluorescent lights (I'm a substitute teacher under those lights all the time) and when I am really hot. I do notice it getting worse when I'm really tired too.
It's sometimes pretty embarrassing because it's so red, not just a slight blush.
I hope that helps! Take care.

hi jodie,
my rash is awful after ive been in the shower. If im planning on going out, i have to have the shower at least 1 hour before, so the rash calms down a bit. I have also noticed it is worse when i wake in the morning and gradually gets better throughout the day, providing i haven't been in bright sunshine for too long.
all the best, Rob

Hi everybody,
Thanks for your replies, they have been very helpful. I think it probably is a lupus rash I have, as it does get worse in the sun and after using my computer as well, but it is most pronounced after a hot shower or at night and usually has faded a bit by the time I see my doctor, so he has never seen it when it is severe.
All the best, thanks for taking the time to reply,
Jodie

I'm not dx'd yet either, but my face rash is definately worse when I'm hot, when I get up in the mornings and after I've been at the computer for any length of time. It will also come out if I've spent time in sunlight, especially driving. My face tends to burn and prickle after a bath as well as getting redder.
A tip I've picked up from here, is get a photo of it or any other rash when it's most visible, and then take it along next time you see your GP/rheumy

My rash gets bad after a bath or shower. and like you mine was always gone before my Dr could see it. I took photo's. A digital camera is best because you can take several till one shows the rash. I found that using the flash washed it out in the photo so i would turn the flash off.
