I have had EEGs before. They are not too unpleasant. The electrodes on your head are quite small these days. The Flashing lights were not a problem particularly.
Do you have seizures? I do sometimes but EEGs are only borderline not spectacularly abnormal.
To my horror I once had a seizure before I even had the EEG. The Technician was perfectly fine with it though, although I got quite aggressive with it.
This was a time when I was in hospital and poorly. Other times there has been no problem at all with EEGs.

Hi Lin :)
Here's a fairly good explanation of what to expect.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003931.htm
I didnt find the test a problem, it does feel a bit weird having those electrodes stuck in your hair and the paste they use is a bit cold. Apart from that the worst thing that happened was I had a bad hair day when I came out ;)
You will be fine :hugbetter: good luck and let us know what happens.

I was going to mention the bad hair day resulting from the tests too, the only thing that I wished that I had with me was a hat afterwards!
The tests itself are quite straightforward, I did find the strobey lighting a bit disconcerting, and found it a bit uncomfortable and difficult to go to sleep on order!
Wishing you all the best with it Lin, Good luck. xx
Hmmmmmm I didnt have to go to sleep but I had to close my eyes, that much I could manage ;) Yep, take a hat Lin

When I had my EEG, they told me if I could, to take a nap. No problem there. I love to take naps. As for the flashing lights, if you are pronr to seizures and sever ones at that, they will need to know that, as I think they will do away with the flashing lights....but do not quote me on that.
Also, you might want to call the facility that is doing your EEG and ask then if there is anything particular that they would like you to do prior to your coming in. It seems to me that you had to wash your hair the night before. Also, I am not sure if you had to not take certain meds, etc, so it is best to double check with them.
Good luck
Nancy
thanks Nancy, it says to carry on with my medication as normal....... but no one said anything about going to sleep.........
Thanks Again, always nice to hear for you all, at least i know now what not or what to expect
cheers my friends Hugs Lin xxxxxxxxxx:)
