View Full Version : pneumonia?
I've just been diagnosed with pneumonia this past week. Had a fever and then a few day later started coughing.
X-rays show pneumonia so the doctor administered a steam mask, antibiotics, steroid puffers. I've had pneumonia twice within 8 months. Has anyone else had lung problems with SLE?
I'm so down about it! Just another set back I guess. My family doctor is treating me and I will see the rheumy in:( a couple of months.

I have had pneumonia too many times to count and that is with the pneumonia shot.
I am sorry to hear that you are down again. I hope that you can kick it this time around. My advice is to absolutely take it easy. When you feel like you are able to go out and enjoy the real world, take a few more days. It is too easy to get run down and then be back to square one.
Good luck

lupus affects my lungs, I have shrinking lung syndrome and that was treated with a very high dose of steriods 60mg and slowly tapered down, I now see my respertory consultant once a year. Hope you feel better soon.

I am hospitalized with pneumonia about once a year. I know it's not fun. I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks Nancy,Birdie & Christianirc for your replies. :)
I seem to have a double whammy right now. I had stage 3 breast cancer 5 yrs ago and also have systemic lupus which I've had for over 30 yrs(with many flares). Possibly it is another lupus flare(the pneumonia) which isn't fun but more importantly I am having the x-rays sent over to be checked by my oncologist---my daughter called me last night & wants me to make sure that the oncologist reviews my x-rays and ensures me that cancer isn't coming back!
Oh sooooooooo much to think about. Anyhow, please keep me in your prayers. I'm a devout christian and appreciate everyones support. Thanks! Being on this website helps me to feel connected and encouraged by so many people who understand lupus & some who have experienced cancer too.
I must add that I am blessed to have a wonderful husband and children who support me. Hope to hear happier stories about your lupus from all of you.
We're all in the same boat and let's hope with all the new research,it will soon be smooth sailing for us all!!

Despite having the pneumonia shot, I still got pneumonia two years ago and ended up in Hospital. I now have yearly shots...
Also was told that certain meds like Imuran and Steriods can make you much more prone to infections.
Hope you feel much better soon.
