Hi, I had the ANA test and SLE test done a week and a half ago. I was just wondering how long it normally takes to get the results back for them? Thanks

Hi Tessie

It depends from place to place how long the test results take to come in. You can call the lab to ask how long and usually the doctor's secretary will tell you if they are in.

When is your next/ follow up appointment ? It should have been fixed at the first. I strongly advise not getting the results sent to you before the appointment.

Depending where you and the lab that drew your blood is a big factor on the length that it takes to get the results back. I am going to assume that you are in the states. A good example would be this: I live in Quincy,IL and our hospital, while it is of good size, doesn't have the equipment necessary to run the SLE along with other rare tests. When I say rare, I mean those that are not as common and run every day. Anyway, my labs are sent to a lab in California and it normally takes at least a week to get results and that doesn't count weekends or holidays. It is very frustrating I know.

I do agree with Clare that you don ot want to know results until your doc can explain them to you. As a nurse, I saw mine before my appointment and I had a good understanding, but still some things had to be explained to me. It is always best to have the doc explain just exactly what they mean.
