I used to be a morning person but since I got very ill many many years ago,:( I became a night person. No matter how hard I tried to turn things around, I always felt better in the evening. Just wondering if this is common with most lupus patients? I eventually accomodated my jobs or social activities around late afternoon or evening hours because I couldn't seem to function in the morning.
I haven't had a good morning since I was about 30 yrs old and now I'm 58!
I remember the actual morning that I woke up,feeling awful. It was as though I had been partying all night and was hungover. I was about 29 yrs old and every morning has been the same ever since(some worse than others).
My co-workers always commented on what an early bird I was. Felt great in the mornings and was at work earlier than anyone else. Lots of energy
That all changed just before my 30th birthday!
My lupus took many years to diagnose but they suspect I had it as a teenager because of all my hospitalizations etc. Doctors didn't know much back in the 70's about lupus!Even during remissions, the mornings never changed back to my formative ones & were always a struggle.
The start button is stuck! Like an automobile with no gas!! I can hardly get moving-- I feel so lethargic and weak when I wake up.
Anybody else like this? Just wondering?

I used to be a morning person, no problem. Then when I started working nights as an RN, I became a night owl and now I have a problem getting back to a day schedule. I haven't worked nights for several years now, but I still haven't gotten back on a day schedule. Arrghh!!

OH WELL, i do get some things done at night as well as some nice peace and quiet.

Hi Oklahomadays
Yes, I can relate to that. I had to describe to a friend how I felt as soon as I open my eyes in the morning and I said that it is like one **** of a hangover. Most days it takes till bedtime to start to feel anyway normal.

As I write at 8.40p.m. I'm looking forward to getting back to bed, but i hope that your day improves!

Hi crtikal & jess 101
Thanks for your replies! I think we all can relate to sleepless nights and rough mornings with this disease. I am feeling better and I hope you both are doing well also.
Talk to you again soon!

hey im better at night time too...i have more energy and it's a bit frustrating coz i have to remember to be quiet because most people sleep at night! i wake up arounf 8 or 9 in the morning but i feel like a zombie till about mid day. i used to be a morning person also. i would wake up at 6 and be dressed by 7. now im lucky if my eyes are open at 7. the worst part is that by the time i have enough energy to do everything i have to do in my day, everything is closed!! like i had to go to the bank today and i only feel up to it now, but it's 6pm!! i guess i will force myself to go tomorrow....

You are not alone for sure! I live at night, sleep in the afternoons, and it feels just right for me.
When I worked, I worked mostly evening shift, and I liked it that way. 8)
Now I paint at night. I clean at night. I garden at night. I tuck the family in at night, and wake them in the morning. I wake up most days just before dinner. (Hubby's home and cooks) I just can't do the day thing and as I am very U.V. sensitive, (SCLE), it turns out that it's even better for me this way.

The start button is stuck! Like an automobile with no gas!! I can hardly get moving-- I feel so lethargic and weak when I wake up. Yes - that's exactly it! That's the best description I've ever heard for how I feel in the mornings. Even though I use a sleep aid and now get fairly decent sleep, it still takes hours for my body to unstiffen each day. I wake up barely able to move my joints, and over the next couple of hours it feels like everything is slowly getting lubricated and coming alive. By afternoon my joints are feeling as good as they're going to get, and by night-time, my body feels like it can handle some work. I can wash floors, etc., at night whereas just the thought of doing it in the morning gives me pain.

Does anyone else get lonely in the Evenings? I find the family settle to their won stuff, Hubby loves TV and I generally end up cleaning the cooker or something. At the moment I have a very swollen right arm so am a bit useless. It is so huge even my clothes fit differently. Seeing the Physio next week. No one has any idea what it is, but I have a Consultant appt. soon so will ask there. It does leave me feeling a bit restless! Unfortunately even though I have more energy at night I still don't have much of it!

i am the opposite. I used to be a night person, but as the cognitive damage has increased my brain just doesn't function well when i am tired so the mornings are better for me. This has been a big change for me as i used to be a total night person.

personally I think it is genetic, my daughter was a night person before she was born, she hardly moved before 11am while I was pg with her

I used to be a night owl as well. Now? Once late afternoon comes around, I start to swell and the pain begins! By the morning, most of my swelling and stiffness has passed. Even my Dr. says I am backwards! My most difficult hours are between about 7pm and 3am. I used to think I was the only one!
