Hi guys,
Hope you are all doing ok!
A new symptom!
The past week or so, I've been getting up in the night and my mouth has been so dry and I'm really thirsty.
Do you know what this means? Does anyone else experience this?
Thanks
Martha

Sometimes some of the medications that you can take can dry out your mouth which is totally frustrating. Another thing that can dry out your mouth is a disease known as Sjogrens.
You might try keeping a glass of water at your bedside so that you can get a drink if you need to. Also, you may want to talk to your physician about it as well. If you do have Sjogrens then there are things you can do to help prevent dry mouth. I always have a drink during the day and night. I also use special toothpaste, mouthwash and mouth rinse that I use 6x a day to keep my mouth moist.
Try the water first. If that does the trick then great, if not then talk to the doc.

Thanks Nancy,
I only started my anti-malarial medication yesterday and Ive been having this for a week now so can't be that. I'm not on any other medication.
I has a sjogrens test a few months ago and it was negative. Might need to get tested again.

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that i had experienced the same problems in the past. I would wake up with my mouth so dry i could not even swollow. I would go for water , night after night this would happen. Wake me out of my sleep from the driest mouth,it was scarey. I tried a mouth wash before bedtime and it really helped. I used Biotene mouth wash for dry mouth. there is also one called oaisis. The reason this was happening i still dont know. But after a while it got better. Alot of strange experiences with lupus. But i read the threads and see that everything written is alot like my own symptoms. It makes me feel that i am not crazy. Hope you will get some answers and relief.

Hi Martha, I have sjrogrens, which is dry mouth, and have had it for a few yrs. If you just began your meds. then you may have had dry mouth , and maybe they didn't catch it. At first I was embarassed, cause I always, always carried a water bottle in my hand everywhere I was. visiting, meetings, in the car everywhere. Then I couldn't stand the embarassment any longer, and I posted on this board. Well someone very wise told me not to be embarassed, just tell people that I am a health nut. It made sense, and it worked and i am still doing it. I have a permanent bottle of water with a straw at bedside. Mine is so bad that if, upon awakening, if hubby asks me a question, I cannot form words until I get my mouth and throat wet. I have tried all the fancy stuff, but this works and is free. Oh,
one more thing, do discuss this again with your Rheumatologist, although you did not say that you had one, you need one, and he needs this info for his records. be well.:wink2:

HI everyone,
I also have dry mouth and drink water continuously. I don't go anywhere without it. I teach and even talking is so hard sometimes. I also have a chronic cough that I've had over 8 years. Do any of you have that problem? I find myself not wanting to even carry on a conversation because I may get a coughing spell. I do have the SSA antobody for sjogrens and I have been diagnosed with lupus. I think I read in one place that cough can go along with sjogrens, but I don't see it often on information places. The cough I guess is minor, but sometimes it feels major when it affects your social life and everyday of your normal talking. I have been in resturants and people think I'm choking and at that moment I may not even be eating or drinking anything, just get a coughing spell. It makes me not want to go out. One person told me that there is a chronic cough specialist that her mother went to. I've never heard of one, but she said he was in the Houston Tex area and I've considered going. Have any of you heard of that? The lady that told me worked at our hospital several years ago and I'm sure she isn't even around anymore to ask.
Thanks,
