View Full Version : Restless Body Syndrome
I know it's a play on words... but at night when I lie down it is like my body starts short circuiting. I also have RLS, so I am comparing this to the leg syndrome. It takes forever to relax and finally go to sleep.
Do any of you experience this at night? Have you been able to take any meds that helped.
i do know where your Comming from, not geting right in bed waking up like you have been at war with your self
I take Amitriptyline at night, does hepl a little, hope you can find something that might help, if its pain you are having
Take care

I'm not sure it's the same thing and I've never had restless leg syndrome, but I go through phases when I feel quite terrible just before going to sleep. It's very hard to describe but it's a sort of quivery, rushy feeling in waves with heart pounding. I feel I am passing out and might stop breathing so much so that I become afraid to fall asleep. Sometimes I spend a whole nap time going in and out like this.
All I can do about it is my relaxation and deep breathing so that at least panic is kept at bay.
I have no idea what it is or what causes it.

I know that feeling, I too get it at night, but more so when trying to nap. Clare you describe it prefectly. I'd sure like to know what it is and how to control it. It sure isn't a very nice feeling.
Hugs Jude:)
I take amitriptyline & klonopin at night. Klonopin can be prescribed for RLS, which I have. The amitriptyline is prescribed for nerve pain in my left leg. They have seemed to help my legs.
As for my body, I really am not sure if I have the same sensations you & the others are talking about. I have ...like small spasms in different places when I lay down. my shoulder, hand, foot...
But, ask your doc about meds for your RLS.
I see Lin is on the amitriptyline also.
There is also a med called "Requip" for RLS.
Good luck

My doctor prescribed a muscle relaxer for me to take at night along with a sleep aid. I take flexeril and restoril. It has made a TREMENDOUS difference.
Hope this helps! Pollyanna

YES! This has been driving my nuts. Not only do I have constant random ticks (some quite powerful), I've said it's like my body has torrets (sp?) syndrome...there's this overwhelming urge to move that can't be resisted. Like with restless leg, you try to resist, but the sensation is too much and you have to move.
The ticks/tremors I attribute to my anti-depressant medicine. But the restless body thing, I'm not so sure.

That's exactly what it is.... you've described it well. It's the overwhelming urge to move that makes me crazy. Just about the time you get a little comfortable and whamo.... you have to move. I take an anti-depressant at night to help in sleeping and have recently had to increase the dosage.

Hi
Sorry to answer this so late but have only just read your post.
I too would get the old jerking legs and arms which would drive me nuts especially during the early evening and when trying to sleep. I would frequently wake my self up by trying to do some complicated disco move!
Any way this went on for about a year and a half until i ended up in hospital having a blood transfusion due to aneamia. The few days before having the transfusion the restlessness went in to overdrive and it was then that i wondered if there was a connection somewhere.
Since coming out of hospital i've not had one twitch!!! Yeah!!!!!:rotfl:
I have since found out that there is a link to restles leg/arm syndrome and anaemia so it might be worth checking your iron levels.
Good luck

Hi all
I've just seen this thread, and I was really struck by what Clare T described in particular - it is so much like what I happens to me.
I also get the twitching and shuddering when I try to get to sleep sometimes. But that quivery rushing and feeling like you're blacking out (though not with a racing heart particularly) is exactly what I get, almost always when napping rather than at night. I had an awful spell of it today, I was feeling exhausted and lay down, and I spent 2 hours like it, going in and out of sleep, just like you said.
It is bizarre, and I've never thought about what actually caused it before. As far as I know I'm not anaemic at the moment because I was only tested 6 weeks ago and am on daily iron pills as a preventative.
