View Full Version : Why don't hospital departments communicate?

Hi folks,

I went for my second accupuncture session at the local hospital on Thursday which was a great success. I asked the therapist if she treated alot of Lupus patients. She said that it was more physio for mobility problems rather than accupuncture, even though they've offered the treatment for many years.

This seemed strange as the Rheumy department is across the hall from the rehabilitation clinic. The therapist told me that it depended which rheumy you saw & actually knew the treatment was available! She also saw a trend in the more younger rheumies referring patients.

My rheumy clinic can't guarantee which doc I get to see out of the 6 available due to recent issues with every patient requesting one in particular. So if I hadn't seen this new younger model who referred me I could have just accepted the muscle relaxants with no alternative.

A few people replied to my original post about accupuncture to say that they had no idea you could get this treatment on the NHS. It seems that just about every hospital in the UK can offer this treatment.

I experience issues with departments not communicating every day in my job but SURELY within a hospital, especially for certain conditions they would work together to provide alternatives for the good of the patients.

You would think...........

P.S. It maybe doesn't show here but this actually made me really mad! :wall:

Pam,
It is like that here in the US also I belong to a huge medical group/clinics/hospitals It is called Scripps-the good part about this is they have almost every speciaty plus your primary care dr. Now here is the kicker they have just one file for me and have access to lab/test results in the computer. They don't communicate and they should probably talk to my rheumy but they don't. They leave that up to me.

I understand where you are coming from and in my case I believe my drs. do not have the time or take the time.

Hang in there. My insurance doesn't cover accupuncture and when I went the one time it was $60.00 and she wanted to see me weekly. Lucky you:)

Hugs,
Becca

Hi Pam,

I know how you feel about lack of communciation in hospitals! I'm still waiting for my appointment to check my eyes (7 weeks after I saw the rheumy) when I rang and asked why it was taking so long I was told that the rheumy has to write to the GP to ask him to refer me and the GP then writes to the eye department who then write to me!!!

No we know why theres never any money in the NHS...All i have to say that if a woman ran it , it may well be more organised......

Its simple to us but there is probably a million and one reasons why it cant be done that way...Indeed!!!!
