My 9 year old sons school are supporting this charity.

There will be a stall in the front entrance with information leaflets and a donation box.

This is a first time event.

I feel strange about it in someway I cant explain even to myself.

Overwhelmingly I also feel really really touched.

The leaflets he bought home from school yesterday , probably have made it far more clear to people the illusional nature of this disease. Its helped in my mind to know that those who dont understand will be more understanding now.

Raising the profile helps to validate the disease and of course all those important funds will be most welcome:) .

Love Nicky

That's great news. It's nice to know what others are doing for today

I "adopted my MP" as part of Lupus UK's campaign and as a result of contacting him and letting him know about "our day" Janet Dean MP tabled an early day motion (EDM) in parliament to recognise World Lupus Day.:)
I don't think I'm allowed to post the link for this but by searching web for "world lupus day 2007" anyone should be able to find the EDM's wording.

I also got my library to display a poster and some bookmarks, and my local pharmacy are also displaying a poster & have said they would be willing to do more in future:thumbs: , so I will pursue that for October awareness month and next years world day.
Later today i'm visiting a few friends and will take my collection box for donations( -every little helps:)

I hope everyone out there has a great World Lupus Day:)

Hi,

Our 8 year old daughter also had a "lupus day" today and they all came out of school wearing their stickers with their leaflets which was fantastic! I am very proud of her she understands Mummy's Disease as much as she can and is very good at expalining it to others- she handed all the leaflets and stickers out with a bit of help from some of the older children, who knows maybe after today there will be a bit more understanding and a few more people with knowledge of this really difficult disease :) Her school also donated all Their end of term (Easter) money to Lupus Uk raised over £200 so that's fantastic too. Nice to know there are still alot of caring people out there :wink2:

Happy (late) Lupus Day everyone! :)

I found out about it the night of may 10th heh so it was a bit late for me to do anything, which I felt bad about, so I've decided to do the fund-raising walk in october, hopefully get some people together to go with me...apperently lupus day just started being celebrated 4 years ago, so im not surprised its not too well-known yet, i just happened to stumble on it on facebook, and joined the official group a lupie had started in honor of the day...its a bit confusing, as october is apperently lupus awareness month, but on the other hand the more lupus awareness opportunities the better...thats great your kids' schools participated, i wish mine had, maybe there will be something in october...

Good morning all
my little contribution to World Lupus Day on 10th May was to get my Gymophobics club to agree to let me sell Lupus UK Grand Draw 2007 raffle tickets.

I rang the Lupus UK office and Geraldine sent me out posters, leaflets, bookmarks, balloons and extra raffle tickets.

I spent 3 hours at the gym on Thursday 10th May which was World Lupus Day another 3 hours 9on teh Friday and 3 hours Saturday morning.

I have only sold 13½ books but considering there are 10 tickets in a book I was quite happy with that and also no one passed me without hearing about Lupus and taking a few handouts. I found that not everyone takes money to the gym and if they do it is not very much....hence poor sales for 9 hours work. At least a small community in my town now have heard about Lupus.....although there were quite a few people I spoke to that have primary Raynaud's, Sjogren's or Arthritis and were surprised to hear that like Lupus they have an autoimmune disease/syndrome. I didn't come across anyone else with lupus but some had an aunt or family friend that had it.....no one I came across had APS :(

I am hoping to sell the rest of the books I have today when I knock on neighbours doors the prizes are really good this year........however for me promoting awareness has been fun this year.

The only problem I have found is that the plastic container I took to store teh money in has caused my wrist to become painful with teh constant opening and closing for change ect......I will have to cancel my own gym appointment today :( still it's more time for knocking on teh door.....I always buy raffle tickets or agree to sponsor for a good cause when neighbours knock on my door so I hope they return the favour.

Clare and all who have tried to promote lupus this week....WELL DONE to you all. xxxx hazel

Hi all,

My daughter (SLE&DLE) Hannah 13yr, Made a speech in her year group assembly about how she felt about her lupus and to encourage fellow pupils to visit the LUPUS stand at the front of the college. The college has 1400 pupils so I'm very proud that she has raised awarness about Lupus to the majority of the students.

The stand had bookmarks , leaflets and balloons sent by LUPUS UK and i spoke to Geraldine as well (she's fantastic) who sent all this to the college.
The College have been great and plan to support Lupus Month in October and raise some funds.

Nice to know there are people who want to help.

Lots of positive posts, well done everyone.

Laura:)

for world Lupus day I done a five minute spot on our local radio on the breakfast show talking about Lupus and how it affects me day to day. Whatever we all do at least we are raising the profile of lupus and that what it is all about. Congratulations to all who have succeeded.:wink2:

Wanting to keep a low profile I went and found myself offering to stand behind the table and help out etc..

I have now found out there is at least one other lupie at my sons school.

They are having a Lupus Day in October where the children pay not to wear school uniform and there are activities arranged through the day.

Im slowing realising that this disease is gaining credability and ignorance is being shifted into knowledge - simply by small measures of effort.

Everything makes a difference.

Good to know others are involved

Nicky:)
