Hello,
I am frustrated and I feel terrible. I am finishing my 3rd antibiotic and I do not feel a whole lot better. The last 2 antibiotics were supposed to be good. The bacteria was not resistant to them like it was the 1st antibiotic. The Kidney infection doesn't want to cooperate and leave!!!!

The wierd thing is I can feel ok for a little while and then all of a sudden I feel like doggy doo doo for no reason. My whole body aches, nausea, dry heaving-vomitting, chills/sweats,lower abd./pelvic pain, pain w/ urination, have to strain to urinate at times, and of course the back pain. I need this to be gone!!!!! I have other stuff I have to deal with. Can any of you offer any suggestions???? I am drinking H20 and cranberry juice galore. I also use pyridium and it has not really helped like it usually does either.

Thank You,
Becca:worried:

((((((((((Becca))))))))))))))

What are the doctors saying about this one? If you are on your third, then maybe they need to have an infection specialist review things. I had to have this done before and they check your blood and levels, etc .to the antiobiotic to see if it is the right one and the dosage is correct. At that point hospitalization was necessary with iv antibiotics.

Is this a possibility?

Have they run a culture again on your urine to know they are treating the same infection? have they ruled out kidney stones by doing a spiral CT?

I would try to see a specialist, either a nephrologist or a urologist (not sure which one is best for your problem). I think some more testing is in order to figure this out.

Good luck - hope you get it figured out soon. maybe you just need a higher dose than normal of antibiotic - twice as strong & twice as long - is an often heard axiom when dealing with a lupus patient with an infection.

Becca,

I can't believe this hasn't cleared up for you! It sounds like you are going through the most awful time, I just can't imagine.

I agree with Paula & Maia, you can't let this go on any longer. Can you go back to the doctor/specialist & ask (demand) a more viable treatment.

Please look after yourself, I know I don't need to tell you that. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that the infection clears soon.

Gentle hugs & positive thoughts,

Pam xxx

Thank You All So Much!!!
I do believe I need to be hospitalized- however I had to suck it up one more day because I am needed at home. My hubby leaves for work at 4:30 am and his work has been great, but they are busy right now and I don't want to add stress. My 14yr old dd leaves for school at 6:30. I need to be here to see her off then I can go to the dr's to be admitted if that still is needed.

Maia- They have not ruled out stones. Yes, they are working off my 1st culture. I had tried to give another and I was unable to produce at the office. I have to strain and it is painful. Anyway, that is where that is. You are soooo right I am one of those that has to be on a anti-biotic for 14-21 days versus 7 days. I have been on anti-biotics now for at least 25 days.

I have another infection too though. I am coughing up green junk started 2 days ago and I have another earache. I had earaches as a child and a teen then they stopped. I have had 3 earaches in the last 8 weeks:shrug: I do not understand.

Paula, Maia and Pam you are all so great and I appreciate your advice. You all are always spot on with your advice for everyone here. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. :grhug:

I will keep you all posted.

Enjoy your Mother's Day weekend( yes I think we deserve a weekend:bigsmile: )

Lots of Love,
Becca:love2:

I got rid of my uti that wouldn't go away by my doctor putting me on a broad spectrum antibiotic, rather than the 'right' antibiotic for the bacteria. It was my 4 course of antibiotics over a period of 4 weeks of feeling very ill, just a nightmare.

so, you may want to try a broad spectrum antib. At one stage I was on TWO drugs that according to sensitivity tests were the 'right' one but didn't work.

if I get another, the first thing I will try is a broad spectrum antib - cefaclor did it for me in the end

feel better soon

I would see a uroligist. I have had this problem before- had the UTI for over 6 months was on every antibiotic made for UTIs then it finally subsided after I was given a 3rd generation antibiotic for a month. Bottom line is youa arent getting better and that is not good. There is a lot of research currently concerning a certain gene in tissue which encourages the growth of bacteria in the urinary tract. Some women have the gene, others dont. Those with that gene tend to have a lot more frequent and severe. I think a uroligist should be up on this research, and would know about the preventative medication that is being used. Anyway hope you get better soon.

Becca, I hope you went to the hospital. With all of the symptoms you are having, you need to be there. N/V,chills, sweats, abd. pain, back pain etc...
You need to get rid of this infection! You sure don't want it spreading to your blood system, which it sounds like it is doing.
I hope you are seeing a Urologist or Nephrologist.
You probably need another culture done to see what is growing.
I feel really bad for you. I have had so many bladder & kidney infections. They are horrible!

Please get yourself to the hospital before the infection spreads more.

Stay in touch so we know how you are.

Thank You:)
I am laying here in agony and I have to suck it up for 13 more hours. My hubby is sooo busy he is working and I have to stay w/ daughter. My family is out of town.

I do have a urologist, but I believe I will be seeing a nephrologist(sp???) and then an internal med dr. I just want to be pain free and to stop dry heaving/vomitting.
Anyway I am quite exhausted and I hope to get sleep and I know I will not sleep at the hospital so I will get some sleep hopefully and then go in.

I will let you know how it goes. Thank you again for your replies.:)

hi Becca

if you do get admitted, just get them to give you sleeping pills. I never take them, but whenever I am admitted and they ask me what medication I am on, I always include a sleeping pill. Who the heck can sleep in a hospital ? Not me, that's for sure. So they always just add it to the list and hand it out at bedtime - it makes me laugh, but they have never double checked. Sometimes I wonder what else I could order up and have delivered to my bedside

hope you feel better soon, no wonder you feel awful if you now have a bunch of other infections as well

:) Hello,
Raglet- that is a great idea I wish I had seen that prior to my stay. I am asking for some today though because I have not slept well in days:yawn:

Joan-Thank you ~You are so sweet and thoughtful:flower2:

Well here it is~ I need to take antibiotics for the rest of my life. I am seriously immuned challenged. I now have a nephrologist involved in my care and I feel more confident that we will get to the bottom of my kidney disease and I will finally know to what extent my kidneys were damaged due to those 2 bad flares that were kidney based atttacks.

Cat scan was ok in regards to my kidney. I have a ovarian cyst but I knew that from last cat scan. I am 100% confident because it took a ultrasound to find my gallstones last time.

I have finally stopped throwing up-YEA!!!!:stretch:

I have another skin thing. A couple months ago I posted about a rash that I had on my livedo reticularis-wellno one responded because apparently no one had heard of this.
Ok now spring forward to today.

I have 2 Huge blister like lesions on my breast. This is the 2nd time these blister like lesions have surfaced. 1st time on my tummy where the levido reticularis(I now think it was just a coincidence) and now on my breast. At first they did not hurt, but now OUCH!!!!!!
Can someone PLEASE help me!!!! The dr. who discharged me said I need to see my dermy and rheumy. I knew that, but in the meantime I am dying to know what in the heck are these things???????

My Next question for y'all is there anyone else out there who has to take antibiotics daily for the rest of their life?

Thank You for being so supportive. Thank You for being so kind. You all are so great. I truly appreciate you.:foryou:

Hugs,:grhug:

I'm glad you are feeling better. I've been in pain from a kidney infection since MARCH! They can't get rid of it and I'm miserable. I'm on my 3rd different antibiotic. I see my rhuemy in a month. I hope he can do more.

I get large welts/blisters on various parts of my body as well. Sometimes they hurt and sometimes they don't. I don't know what they are, I've never asked a doctor.

Becca,

I am so sorry that you are having such a bad time. It sounds like you need to have a heavy duty antibiotic/anti infective to get rid of your infection. I am also sorry to hear that the Pyridium is not working as well for you. I would be so ready to scream!!!

HI Becca -

( Now I understand your email )

I am glad that this is somewhat under control now and that you are back home.

I have no clue about the antibiotics daily. I am interested in finding this out though. I just thought that if you overuse them, when you need them they will not work. I think they need to explain this all to you so that you better understand it.

I hope this new doctor is a good one and can help with the kidney problems but glad your scan came out good.

As for the lesions - go see dermo? Couldn't they help you while you were there for that? Did you make that appt. and I would ask for an emergency appt. I have no idea what that is and am clueless. I hope that someone else here has something similar and can help you out. Except, if it were me, I would be making someone see me now and get that under control too as that is no fun it sounds like.

Oh Becca - sending get well flowers your way.
