i hadn't heard anything for a couple of weeks since i had my home assessment so i phoned them today.

The guy on the phone said a decision had been input on 3rd May and hadn't i received the letter? I said no so he is going to resend it however he said he couldn't tell me the decision over the phone. Is this usual or should i infer from this that i have been denied?

Anyone got any experience of this happening? Bracing myself for appeal

thanks

In my experience it is perfectly normal for them not to tell you ,so not neccessarily sinister.
I hope the letter arrives soon and is what you need it to be.

Lola is right they won't tell you over the phone, unless you really really push it. Tell them it is making you anxious and stressing you then they will give you a call back and tell you the answer then. I ahd to do this with my hubby last time he had his assessed. It's worth a go, but you might get the letter by tomorrow if they move their backsides.

it is reassuring. I am bracing myself for appeal if necessary. My doctor diagnosed today chronic fatigue syndrome and has given me a mental health questionnaire to fill in as i have increased anxiety and depression at the moment so i will definitely appeal if necessary as i have worsened over the last month.
thank you both again and hope you are feeling good today.

Hello Jen,
You may get a surprise. I do hope so.
The Appeals process is quite hard. I did one for my Son successfully and gave a Statement at another for a friend. If you have some good welfare rights advice you will do better at Appeal. There is a good discussion board for this.If you need the details PM me.

looks like i am going to need that website lola. Letter came today stating that i did not need help with personal care including the making of meals so i rang to contest this. The guy on the other end said it was quite possibly the independent doctor's opinion that i could cook that swung it. I said how could he possibly know - i wasn't cooking when he arrived! He also must have said i could walk far - even though i could barely cross to the other side of the room and certainly not with a "normal gait" as the decision maker had put.

he says i can now ask for a review or go straight to appeal. He is sending me the appeal pack but i want to seek advice from Citizens Advice before i decide what to do next. I have that awful stressy panicking feeling within me again - everything seems so hard and so much like a fight that i have no energy for. :(

Straight after speaking to them, Incapacity Benefit rang and asked me what my tax contributions were from April 04/05. I didn't make any as i got my job in April 05 so she told me i am not entitled to IB either. You ever get that feeling that the whole world's against you?

hope everyone is as good as they can be today

Hi to you.
I know how you are feeling, i to cannot get D.L.A or IB either, alythough i do know of people that do get it for lupus, and like you i don't understand how some get it and some don't.
I'm now appealing mine and waiting for them to get back to me.
Try and claim again, and see what happens, you can only keep trying......
Hugs
Debbs. xoxo

good News! My Daughter has just been granted DLA. Quite quickly too. She does suffer quite badly hands too bad to write at all. Had to be home educated due to illness. She got High Mobility, Middle Care which has really pleased us. She deserves some consolation, has never been well.
Hope this encourages you Girls!
