Lotts,

It is going to take time for the anti-malarials to reach peak benefit. The time period is usually 6-9 months. The other thing with lupus is learning to pace ourselves. I don't know how far you traveled, how much sun you were exposed to and how much walking you did on Saturday. All of those things can pull us down. Learning to pace myself is an ongoing problem despite having lived with lupus for many years. I know when I start to feel better I tend to over do, not as much as I used to but still do a little bit.

Besides Plaquenil what other medications are you taking? I know in the USA our rheumatologists tend to prescribe NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) to help with inflammation and the pain it brings.

I am sorry that you didn't get to enjoy your visit as much as you hoped. Please write this experience down and discuss it with your doctor at your next appointment.

Take care,
Karen
