Hi everyone?

Does anyone know if a connection between Lupus and Diabetes Mellitus has been established? I went in for my yearly physical and my test indicated insulin resistance. I go back for another blood draw and then have to drink something sweet, wait about 2 hours and then have a draw again.

Has anyone here on the site had similar experience? The dr. did say that If I am insulin resistant,,that could be a reason I am not feeling much better despite being treated for my lupus.

I am overweight..but not terribly, so I was a bit taken back..I have sweating spells and get the shakes really bad when I have not eaten..Do you think that is related to my lupus meds or the insulin resistance? Maybe both? Diabetes, does not run in my family either..Oh well! Life is still good and I am still smiling..

I am not an expert on this but I do know that Diabetes is also an auto immune condition and believe quite a few people have both. Also steroids can predispose us to it. When I was on very high doses I was borderline for steroid induced diabetes. The shakes etc. on not eating were pretty bad. Fortunately with lower steroids it resolved.

As I say I am not an expert, I am sure someone here can help you more than me.
