View Full Version : Surgery Tomorrow
I'm having my gallbladder out tomorrow (laparoscopically hopefully) and should be home from hospital the day after that. Please send good vibes/thoughts/well wishes/prayers my way. I'm nervous as this is my first surgery post lupus dx and post motherhood.
Also, found out the results of my testing for Lyme disease today, I have one active IgM band (indicating current infection) and two active IgG bands (indicating past infection). These are occurring on two of the most specific and reliable Western Blot bands for Lyme disease. The doctor told me today he thinks I have both lupus and Lyme which is a terrible thing because treatment for one is almost harmful for treatment for the other. Not entirely sure how to proceed, but likely will try antibiotic treatment after my surgery.
I also now have 3 kidney stones, and my knee has decided to quit working for me. My lupus is starting to flare again...When it rains it pours. At least my mom is here to watch DD for up to 2 weeks, and I should be able to get lots of rest.
Take care everyone and hope to be back in 2-5 days.

Wishing you a smooth surgery and a quick recovery. I hope they sort out some sort of treatment for your lyme and lupus:( , you must be a very rare case, having both:worried: . Hopefully you will get some relief with the gallbladder gone. Can they do lithotripsy for the kidney stones?

Dear Maia
I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping that all goes smoothly and you make a speedy recovery.
About the rest, what bummers (((( Maia ))))), but "sufficient unto the day...."
I once had developing Lyme disease with very high titres of B. borreliosis after a fluke tick bite, but 10 days IV antibiotic put paid to it.
Such bad luck for you.
All the best

Wishing you all the very best with the surgery, and for a speedy recovery.
Hope everything goes well, glad that you have your Mum around for a while, get lots of rest. xxx
I'm back home and feeling pretty well all in all. I wish I had gotten to see those pesky little ******s before they threw them away! (gallstones - I guess there were a lot of them!)
I will proceed on with treatment for everything in a few weeks time. Hopefully the antibiotics will help the Lyme even though it's been almost 9 months since that last tick bite at this point.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, I think it really helps. Take care everyone!

Hello Maia
I am glad the surgery went well and hope you have a speedy recovery.
The first thing I said when I was coming round from the anaesthetic was to ask to have those critters - I wanted to take them home with me, after all they were mine, so why not. I was going to add them to my collection of extracted teeth.
They were quite shocked at my request and said they had to keep them for the Chief Medical Examiner, or some supervisory authority, as proof that the op was legitimate and in case there were any liability claims.
As for the Lyme that is very bad luck and I hope the treatment is effective. It's such a controversial area but I am sure you have done your homework and have trust in your doctors. I can't remember exactly what anti bio I had, except it started with a D so I suppose it was doxycyline
I wonder if your feeling rough that you thought was from lupus was in fact the Lyme. I had put my lack of wellbeing down to menopause.
All the best
Clare
Hi Clare,
The doctor actually told me he requested the pathology dept to send them up to me and around here most people actually keep them ;) But there was a mix up and they were thrown out instead of delivered to me. Oh well.
Very well might have been Lyme instead of lupus that caused a lot of my symptoms over the last year. Sore throat, headache, joint pain, fatigue, pins and needles in legs and arms, MRI results are consistent with Lyme, the neuropsychiatric testing abnormal results, etc. I'm a bit peeved my former doctors wouldn't run the test for me including the neurologist and the rheumatologist. Then I'm peeved at myself I didn't find a doctor willing to run the good tests for Lyme for a few months after that. Especially since I had a documented tick bite inspected by that hospital with a large red area of inflammation around it last summer. But it was not the "bullseye" rash so no one took it seriously.
I've been told that I'll probably be on two antibiotics since it takes 2 to be sure the antibiotic gets into all the tissue types the Lyme has probably gotten into by this point.
The surgery has definitely wiped me out, much more tired than normal. But the pain has lessened significantly already around my incisions making it easier to get out of bed and get around so that's good.
