Laparoscopic banding is a less invasive option to gastric bypass and I am looking into having this done. I'm praying that I'm able.

Has anyone else with lupus had this done? :worried:

I qualify for the procedure at this time, but I'm afraid if my health gets any worse, they won't consider me.

I'm worried, scared but most of all, tired. Tired of carrying around an extra 125 pounds all day, every day. When I looked at my history, I have dieted since 1976! That is over 30 years. So sad

Anyway, my health has been pretty lousy these past few weeks, and I am hoping for some input before I make a final decision.

Thanks lovely lupies! Love, Polly

I don't know what to say, as I've not had that done, but just do your research and possibly get a second opinion on that surgery if at all possible. I know the "regular" surgery can be pretty risky & that's for the healthy.

I had one friend that had the surgery and she managed quite well though. She did develop gallstones after 3 weeks, and said that was far more painful than the surgery itself. Gallstones form quite commonly after any weight loss surgery so be aware of the signs/symptoms so you can get treatment for that right away if it hits you.

Good luck to you - I hope you find a solution to your weight problem that works for you.

I had gastric bypass surgery 5 years ago. I lost 130 pounds and have kept off. I gained 10 pounds recently after going on prednisohn.

My rheumy feels that the surgery may have something to do with my lupus. I was diagnosed 1.5 years ago with SLE. Your immune system is very much connected with the stomach, so research all you can before moving forward, even with the lap band.

Good luck!

Susan

my sister in law had this done, but unfortunately the weight loss was only temporary.

hope it works for you
