I am going today for a NCS to test for Peripheral Neuropathy. My hands/fingers, feet/toes, have been tingling, and burning for years. I have just put this off because I have had so many other problems that took priority. :worried: So, I have the NCS today, then see my neuro afterwards.

Not really looking forward to the test, but I guess I need to have it done. :( Just looking to see if anyone out there has Peripheral Neuropathy and what helps you get through the day and what helps alleviate the pain and burning.

Any advice will be appreciated. Will keep you updated on the outcome of the test.

God Bless and take care. :wink2:

Hi there!

Good luck with your EMG :hugbetter:

I have PN and have found some relief from taking a seizure med, started slow and working my way up, its the kind of pain/burning that no other drugs seem to touch isnt it :(. If you are from the States Neurontin is a very popular drug used for PN and also Lyrica.

Hopefully they will put you on one of those and it will be helpful.

Hi,

Just wanted to wish you luck with your test. If you haven't already had your test, the key is to totally relax. I too have PN but can't help you with the pain issue. Mine pain will start and get real intense then suddenly stop so I don't have to take anything for it.

Take care,
Lazylegs

I have Peripheral Neuropathy problems. The tingling in hands/fingers...feet/toes. A New doctor decided to check me for B12 Deficiency. turned out that was my problem. I been on B12 injections about 2.5 years now. I know when my Injection is due about every 12 weeks, as my problems start up...Worth asking about it.

Heres a link of B12 Deficiency and the problems it causes...also here is the list from that link on the Tingling in hands and feet is mentioned.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms of severe vitamin B12 deficiency (regardless of the cause) may include burning of the tongue, fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, intermittent constipation (http://www.numarkpharmacists.com/hn/Concern/Constipation.htm) and diarrhoea (http://www.numarkpharmacists.com/hn/Concern/Diarrhea.htm), abdominal pain, weight loss, menstrual symptoms, psychological symptoms, and nervous system problems, such as numbness and tingling in the feet and hands. Most symptoms can occur before the deficiency is severe enough to cause anaemia. Healthcare professionals have a series of laboratory tests that can determine B12 deficiency at earlier stages that are not accompanied by anaemia.

Good luck with everything, but do ask about being tested if you have not already been tested

good luck with the nerve conduction study, I will be interested to read how you get on with it.

I have sensori-motor axonal neuropathy, so it affects both sensation and motor function (causing weakness). It was diagnosed by nerve conduction study, and i have another one every few years to chart it's progression. Originally I had severe pain, but for many years now I have had numbness instead, which I must say I prefer as the pain was very severe (on a scale of 1-10 I always used to say it was a 22). I also have weakness in many areas.

Anyway, PN is a total pain in more ways than one. But, there are good treatments available so I hope your neuro is taking care of that side of things

looking forward to the update, i am always interested in pn stories

The results of my NCS showed that I did not have "deep" PN, but subcutaneous PN. So, my doctor thinks that I may be B12 deficient, so I am started with B12 injections. I am going to be on those once a month and see her back in 6 weeks.

Thank you for all your input. The test wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

She didn't order any blood work, which was weird. Thank goodness I had an appointment with my rheumy this week, and he took care of all of the lab work needed. I'm glad I have him!! :hehe:

God Bless and take care! :)

Hi Heather,

Well thats a relief..........the B12 should go a long way to helping this. I assume the Rheumy did the B12 and intrinsic factor tests this week? Usually it would show up in bloods so that will give them a pretty fair indication.

Good luck and let us know how you get along.
