Hi there,

I haven't posted in quite awhile but often check in and keep you all in my prayers. I just got back another bunch of test results. One thing I have noticed year after year, test after test is that my %eosinophils on my hematology report are always pretty high. I did some searching on the internet today and was reading about EMS. Many of the symptoms are very similiar to Lupus and I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or knew anything about it. I have an appt next week and intend to discuss it with my MD but any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all of you for always being there. Sometimes I think I would go crazy if not for being able to come to this site and see I am NOT alone!!!! In fact, most often I leave this site feeling like I don't have things so bad compared with so many of you.

Thanks again,

Agate:what:

Hello again everyone!

I am so sorry I am so long in responding. Been in a bad flare and only computer access is at work so I haven't been able to really get back on. EMS is Eosiniphilia myalgia syndrome. The reason I was questioning it is for several years back all my blood tests have shown highly elevated eosinophils and noone has really addressed it. I did some checking on line and found that EMS has very similiar symptoms (sometimes!) as lupus and it was mentioned in several articles that it is often misdiagnosed as such. I guess I was just feeling so yucky I was grasping at straws. I will see my Dr tomorrow and ask her about it. Apparently it can be brought on by some additive in sugar substitutes. I really haven't investigated it much. Just found it interesting. I will let you know if I find anything out. Thanks again. :wink2:

Interesting agate, I learnt something new :)

http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic693.htm

It says they have to be really elevated in EMS, I know another common cause of elevation is good old asthma and allergies. My sons are often elevated.

Let us know what the doc says pls.
