In my area the Tesco store is running this offer for the rest of this week.
I have an appt this afternoon.

It might be good to ask if you have an optician practice in any of the stores near you if they also are running this offer concurrently.

Anyway Im off to check for retinal toxicity as unlikely as it may be re taking Planquenil.

Nicky
ps of course I will try to remember to ask whilst if I am in store

That's interesting although I want new glasses too and I can't get to a Tesco's easily.

You need the visual field test though - the one where you look for pinpricks of light - I would be rather surprised if they have that machine.
Let us know what they are offering

Claire, I dont think he knew what retinal toxicity was all about and as for Lupus well??!
He did no test involving pinpricks of light or visual field. He dismissed any relation to melanin in the eye and retinal toxicity with Planquenil , suggesting even that there will never be a problem. Oi Vey!!!!!!

He did ask me after the test was over about Lupus. I think just out of general interest or perhaps the warm up to selling me a pair of glasses!
He did say that he gets ' all sorts' in here giving amongst other examples" he even had somebody in with an overgrowth hormone who had to bend down to get through the door".

I think I will stick to my local opthalmology thingy person who is always 'dead on the money' with her knowledge and care.

I walked out without buying a pair of glasses though.

I still think its worth going along locally to your own store even just to check out the offers.

"Oi Vey " indeed ! Makes me feel like I am still in NYC. I think that should be the lupie slogan, it would come in handy far too often.

:rotfl:

I'm sorry you had a wasted trip but I got a hearty laugh out of it, so thanks.

Hugs from one 'allsort' to another. I like the liquorice ones best with the blue bobbles on, by the way

Cheers

Hi just to inform anyone.
If you are on Plaquenil you do need a yearly check for toxicity as a precaution. The test is called an Amsler grid.
I can't post links on this site but a web search for "amsler grid" should yield results leading you to sites that have online test grid so you can check yourself out.

Should be Lupus Slogan... wouldnt that be great.

I think we should ditch the club card Joan and have our own Oi Vey Lupus Loyalty card.

Wheeliefab I will look up the amsler grid thankyou.

an amsler grid is good for in between visits home monitering but we need the test that clair was talking about.

You sit in front of a white field with chin in a chin cup and a patch over the non testing eye. small points of light show, you push a button each time you see the light. This prints out as a map of your visual field. gaps in this would show if deposits are effecting vision. The doc also dilates the eyes and shines a prisom of light inside so he can visualize for any problem areas.

I love the Oi Vey Lupus Loyalty Card idea !

There are several sites (or should I say sights) with printable Amsler grids such as

http://www.armd.org.uk/amsler.htm

http://www.retinaaustralia.com.au/AmslerGrid.htm

They look smaller than the one I was given once.

Or. you can find a floor with straight lines, wood planking for example, lie down on it and squint along the lines to see if any of them look wavy.:rotfl:
Heavens above, that was once suggested to me in all seriousness.
I pointed out that I don't have floors of this sort and I would not be able to get up again, surely there were more technical ways of doing it.

I was told to hold the Amsler horizontal at eye level and look along it that way but didn't notice that instruction on these sites.

I noticed this "test your vision" site which might be quite useful. I'll probably sign up for it later.
http://www.myvisiontest.com/

There's also the question of the colour vision. I had this each time with my NYC ophthalmo who commented that the little book he used was no longer available. Somewhere on the forum there's a discussion of this colour test which I'll try to find.

Another indication of trouble brewing is seeing fuzzy blurs, haloes, round light

But I must definitely hie myself to the optometrist's tomorrow without fail as my eye test is overdue. When I first looked at the amsler all the lines looked wavy but after I calmed down it's not so bad and maybe perfectly alright for my age.

Wheeliefab, you'll be able to post links now since you have made 15 posts.

:)
Cheers
