Please see

especially the reference to greeting and helping newcomers and keeping the conversation general so that all can join in. It's fine joking around when among friends, but newcomers are often anxious and distressed.
Use the chatroom PM facility for purely personal chat
Thanks !

Need to bump this thread unfortunately.
And to add - please respect what you may have been told in confidence and don't refer another person's personal business when there are other people present with whom the member may not have shared the information.
This is part of the 'third party' convention in forum and chat which is mindful of other people's privacy and right to confidentiality, in the same spirit as not talking about people in their absence and not referring to conversations in chat on the forum. In fact, don't refer to or report conversations with other people ( the 'third party' ) on the forum either. People have the right to decide whom they wish to share their business with.
Also, we do not normally accept health reports about other people, except when the reporter is designated by the person concerned and the Moderators have been informed.
It is only with members' understanding and cooperation that we maintain this forum and our chat room's excellence and the unique support resource that they are.
Members who are listed as being in the chatroom but who fail to respond to incomers risk being kicked out after a reasonable length of time and repeated failure to react, as the moderator thinks fit.
Please let us know about instances of disrespect for other members' welfare, with details please, and breach of the chat room guidelines such as offensive language. Your identity will not be revealed. There can't be a continuous moderating presence in the chatroom so we do rely on such reports.
If you have any questions about this please PM me
Thank you all :)
Clare
