Join the LFA's Next Webchat on: Teens & Lupus
Wednesday, December 12
3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time
Caring for a child with lupus is one of the greatest challenges a family can face. After the diagnosis is made, the first step for every parent is to learn as much as possible about the disease and the special needs of a child with lupus. Parents need to educate the child with lupus and their other children, plus their child's teachers, and family friends.
The next Lupus Live Chat will be on the topic of Teens & Lupus, and the special needs of pediatric lupus patients.
About Our Guest Speaker: Peter Chira, M.D., M.S., is an instructor of pediatric rheumatology at Stanford University School of Medicine at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital. Dr. Chira's research interests focus on improving the transition and educational process for adolescents with rheumatic diseases, including those with systemic lupus, and evaluating the role of information technology in this transition, with a past project looking at the role of an online chat room support group for teens with rheumatic conditions. Currently, Dr. Chira is working on a project looking at designing a personal health record for teens with chronic health problems.
