The only thing I have been able to figure out is that updating Java can be a good thing or bad. When I was running Vista 64bit, I was able to get into chat fine until I updated one time. I don't update Java anymore unless it quits working completely for me. This is one of those things where "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" seems to be the way to go. So if Java doesn't work for you now, keep trying to update it until it does. If it does work, don't update. Java updates come up quite frequently.

I have downloaded Java and posted a question in the chat lobby, sent it and nothing ever happened. how do you know if people are in there?

    Hello TreeQ :)

You can see if people are in chat on the main "forum" page, down at the bottom in the "What's going on section" - if there is anyone in chat their names will be listed there under "chat room". You can also see the number of people (but not their names) at the top beside the chat room tab. The only trouble with that one is that it seems to be very slow on updating and often you see a number there long after the person has actually left.

    I hope that helps

Dinnerlady - I really don't know why you can't get into chat. Have you tried using a different browser in case it is your internet browser that is not updated (mine is set to do its own automatic updates)? Mozilla works very well as does safari (the apple browser). They are both available free as an internet download. I use Mozilla all the time anyway as internet explorer spends its time crashing on me!
