I am looking for any recommendations of a good Rheumatologist. I have been going to the Lupus Center of Excellence for 7 years now. Lately, they moved offices and everything about their new location is terrible. To add to the frustration, getting an appointment with my doctor is like getting an appointment with a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. I called today and they literally told me there was nothing. I would have to call back at the beginning of May and fight for an opening in July...if I was lucky! Isn't there a limit to the patient/specialist ratio? I was just put on Methotraxate and am adjusting my own steriod intake. I feel like I should be closely monitored. Instead, I feel like I am all alone with no doctor at all because they are taking on too many patients. Please help! If you are in the Pittsburgh area and know of any other doctor that is experienced with Lupus I would greatly appreciate your advice! Thanks!

    Hello Penny and welcome :)

I can't help you with the doc search but you are right, that situation does sound unacceptable :(

I hope you find someone good. You can also contact the Lupus Foundation as they may have some recommendations in your area.

Hi, I am originally from 40 miles north of Pittsburg on the Allegheny River. My family still lives there. I have considered going to the Lupus center, but have heard other negative stories about the center. Because of your proximity, have you ever considered the Cleveland Clinic? Katharine's suggestion to get in touch with the Lupus Foundation is a great idea. Good Wishes, Rosie

Hi there Penny. I am in Philly, so can't really give you direct experience, but I have worked with the Lupus Foundation of Pennslyvania. The following link is for the Lupus Foundation of Pittsburgh. http://www.lupuspa.org/pittsburgh.htm

There is no physician referral information on the site itself, but if you call the staff can assist you. A good doctor that you can get an appointment with is much better than even a great doctor that you can't get in to see. From all I have heard, I would steer clear of the Lupus Center of Excellence. Best of luck neighbor!
