Hi everyone hope you are well.

I would really like your help and advice on my eye problem please!!!!!!!! I've not been diagnosed but am back with rheumy in a week ( yes I'm on count down.) Around 3 weeks ago I was in garden, lovely sunny day and I ended up with a swollen eye and very sore! Antibiotics not worked so GP said to wait for rhuemy appointment to get his advice? Yesterday was beautiful and so we spent a couple of hours in the garden with our daughter. Last night boy did I pay for it. I sat down and no sooner did I feel terrible. I ached all over felt like I had a cold coming on and could hardly open both eyes. My eyes were extremely sore and burning and it felt like I needed to scrape them out. It also feels that my eyelids are stuck to my eyeballs ( I hope I'm making sense and not making myself seem silly and over the top.) :hehe:

Although this morning is slightly better than last night I'm still a little confused because I love the sunny days( the few we get!) and can't understand why now I can't spend so long in the garden? Sorry for banging on and thanks for listening once again.

SO glad I found this site:)

allergies ? My eyes get like that, my eye specialist tells me it is eye allergies and steroid drops really help. I get inflammation on the inside of my eyelids, very sore.

You may need to see an eye doc if you can't get it sorted.

I am also allergic to the preservative in liquid tears, so if you try those you may like to try the preservative free ones. They just help with the dry feeling, but I find the one's with preservative in them very ouchie.

feel better soon.

Thanks Raglet for your quick response.

I was under the eye specialists 4 years ago as my eye was really quite bad then and wouldn't respond to antibiotics or drops! They came to conclusion that I had problems with my sinuses and fluid in my left cheek. I did go into hospital for this draining but still suffered with my sinuses. My GP since thinking I have lupus just recently suggested that the doctors 4 years ago should have seeked answers to why I were having problems with my eye and not just put it down to sinuses? Could this be connected to lupus as I first started after I'd had my daughter 7 years ago? Also the Rheumy on my first appointment was quite interested in all of this but I couldn't understand why he'd brought it up. So yes I blame him for my eye as it asn't swollen up like this for a while.Ah! Ah!:rotfl::rotfl:

Thankyou Mrs M

Hi Mrs. M,

Sounds like some kind of allergic reaction to me also. I used to get like that but it was long before lupus.

Many of us are very allergic people, so it's not surprising if your Rheumy was interested in any allergies, sinus problems etc.

It's probably a good idea to see your GP and if he can't help then ask to see another eye doc. There are some good eye drops these days that help with allergies but for the life of me I can't think what it was they gave my daughter  lupie memory............but they worked very well! The feeling you are describing though is often common with dry eye syndrome and there are another type of eye drop and gels that are helpful for that. An eye doc can do specific testing to see if you have dry eye syndrome, it may also help with diagnosis. make sure to tell your Rheumy about this.

If you think you may have Lupus you will do well to avoid the sun.
It really can make things much worse in all sorts of ways.
