I am about to have an epidural on thursday as I have a crumbled disc with protruding disc which is hitting on a nerve and causing me no end of pain which I cannot even describe. I have taken all sorts of pain relief short of taking morphine. My question is how long is this epidural going to last as I don't want to be in the same position as I am nowin 3-6 months time. I can barely sit properly and the only comfortable position is laying down and I am so fed up with it all. All I want is someone to be able to take the pain away and make me "normal" again. I have been like this since january this year.

Hi Birdie,

I can't answer your question. I just want to wish you luck with the epidural. Hopefully it gives you the pain relief you so desperately need.

Take care,

Birdie,

I have had epidurals during labour! They lasted as long as necessary until delivery.

Are you having surgery carried out on the discs?

I have not heard of an epidural like the one you are describing that will last for months. Did the specialist not give you a leaflet that provides this info! Perhaps you could phone the hospital and find out more before Thursday!

Take care,

Lesley

I have heard of Epidurals used this way very successfully, but I am afraid I don't know how long they last.
Good Luck.

I used to have injections of steroid and local anaesthetic in my sacro iliac joints, they were lasting a good three months.

Birdie,

I google epidurals for back pain and it came up with Epidural Steroid Injections (ESI) - perhaps this is what your going to have!

Did not have time to read the info. to see how long it helps keep pain away!

My father-in-law recently had nerves corterized in his lower back area - helped kill pain!

Good luck on Thursday!

Good luck birdy! I had back pain like that starting in 2001. I'm convinced the lack of sleep is what kicked in the Lupus. The only thing I found to help were ice cold, cold packs and time. The back started freezing on its own about 2 years ago. The pain had been getting steadily less ever since I started chiropractic care but now if I'm careful I don't have much pain sitting - but i can't walk far or stand.

Hello birdie
I want to wish you the very best of luck for tomorrow. I hope all goes smoothly and you get pain relief as soon as possible. What you have been going through sounds awful.
I hope your doctors will be able to give you some answers and reassurance.
Many hugs
Clare
