So my other half reluctantly bought me a little Russian hamster for xmas - he was pretty against it as he says that they're vermin. I explained that if we lived in our own house with a garden and I didn't have to work, then maybe we'd have a cat or dog but all the time we are in a second floor flat, it wouldn't be fair so this was the alternative.
Needless to say the two are now very good friends - Pickle has a lovely nature, he enjoys being picked up for cuddles and interacting with us. However we had a little 'incident' recently and I thought little Pickle was a gonna!
We came back from our holiday, my neighbour had been keeping an eye on Pickle. When I got home and checked on him, he had what looked like 2 massive blisters hanging out of his mouth!
I was gobsmacked and called the vet to arrange an appointment. Turns out it was one of his pouches hanging out. I had to sign a consent form for surgery on the understanding that as Pickle is so small, he might not make it
Anyway, thankfully the poor little mite made it through and now you'd never know he's ever undergone 'major' surgery! Only the other day, I went to get him out of his 'burrow box' that we made him to discover he was missing. I called him and the little so & so came running from under the coffe table, all pleased with himself!
It's amazing really that something so small can bring so much comfort & amusement - he's great and even Simon has warmed to him (despite the £70 vets bill - yep, you read it right, £70 for a little hamster to have surgery!)
I must work out how to upload a picture of him.....
