Hi all

So i still keep getting this discomfort in my back/left side its more annoying than painful, it feels like somethings swollen under my ribs (like theres a fist pressing/pushing outwards on my ribs/insides) on the left side around the bottom 2-3ribs.
This discomfort seems to come on for 1-2 weeks and then goes for a few weeks and then returns

Gp examined and said the pain/discomfort seems to be coming from my kidney area, i did have a little blood in urine but no infection and kidney blood tests all fine. Shes unsure what the discomfort is, says see her again when i get the pain/discomfort.

Im just wondering..... is it possible for the kidney to swell? could my kidney be swelling slightly causing discomfort? I have no idea?!? Any ideas? This has been going on for around 18months and would kind of like to know what it is.

Sorry to hear you are feeling discomfort. I don't think a blood test is enough to get the findings. Has you doctor suggested a cat-scan or ultra sound. You have gone to long with this problem. I don't understand why she wants you to come back when the discomfort starts again. Maybe a specialist is needed. I would want to know the reason myself it it were me. It should not keep happening when there is blood in urine, I wouldn't wait for the next time it happens. but that is me. I hope you will get the answers you deserve and not wait . I hope you will find out soon. That's just my input.

Hi, sorry you are having this discomfort. Have you mentioned this to your rheumy? The rheumy might have more idea what is wrong and be able to order tests etc to check it out. I would def go back to my gp in the meantime if it comes back though. I hope you manage to get things sorted.

Sorry forgot to mention iv had an abdominal ultra sound which came back as 'normal'
the problem is by the time my GP organised the ultra sound the discomfort had gone
I dont think it could be anything serious as the discomfort 'comes and goes' and isnt constant and ultra sound was clear.

I was just wondering if it is possible or kidneys to swell? Maybe my kidney is swelling slightly causing the squished up/discomfort feeling?!? I dont even know if its possible for the kidney to swell? im just clutching at straws really :rotfl: :blush:

My Gp wants me to visit her when the discomfort is back again so she can re-test my urine to see if there is any blood present.

Any ideas welcomed
