Hi all
Sorry I have not been in contact for a long time, numerous problems since last on, symptoms were getting worse with the SLE plus had to see a psychologist who says I am suffering with severe depression and agoraphobia, but to top it all off I was rushed into hospital the day before christmas eve with a Brain Heamorrhage, don't remember much of it, but by all accounts they didn't think I would even make the trip into the hospital and asked for my family to be there, I felt so sorry for my children who had just buried their father 2 weeks previously, anyway I managed to dodge the Grim Reaper this time and am now beginning to realise how lucky I was. Hubby has been fantastic as I can't do much at the moment and sleep a lot, but he arranged for Social Services to come and see me, which they did the next day ,and they have arranged a Bath Seat, Grab Rails and another Bannister for the stairs, I also have someone coming next Friday from the Pensions department to help me to fill in forms for DLA.
I have an MRI Scan arranged for next Saturday, not looking forward to that, but it has to be done.
Anyway, that's it for now, hope to be on again soon
Hope you are all keeping well
Love

Hi Meryl,

I'm so sorry to hear how tough things have been for you. It must have been pretty frightening even if you weren't aware of everything going on.

I really hope that everything goes a lot more smoothly from now on.

hugs

Oh my goodness Meryl what a terrible time you have been having, and so worrying for your family too. I hope all the people involved in your care will do their best to help you through this. I suppose they are investigating what could have caused the brain hemorrhage.
Kudos to your husband!

Many hugs and best wishes for the future

Meryl,
I am so sorry for you and your family. You must of had an angle with you on the way to the hospital. I am glad that you are home now and the recovery can begin with all your loved ones around you. I wish you well with the MRI. Take it easy as we would not want a repeat of just before christmas. Hope to see you in the chat room when you feel well enough to join us there. I am very glad that you are ok for now and just take one day at a time for now, we are here if you need to vent, scream, or just talk.

Hi All
Thank you for your kind wishes, they have helped me a lot.
Not sleeping as much as I was and the headaches are subsiding somewhat from the Brain Haemorrhage. I can't do an awful lot apart from rest, but I try to do a little more each day and just take it a day at a time.
Went for my MRI Scan last Saturday, wouldn't like to repeat that too often, when they first put me in it I panicked and they brought me out again, but I had taken a sleep mask with me so I put that on along with the earphones to play a CD that I had taken with me and I was ok, mind you 45 minutes is a long time to have to keep still, but at least I managed it. Will get the results in about 2 weeks time.
Have now filled out the forms for DLA, so will see if I have a fight on my hands or not, I even enclosed a Lupus Schematic Drawing explaining all about Lupus, don't particularly care if this causes offence to their intelligence:rotfl:
I will let you know how I get on with it.
Best wishes to you all

Hi Meryl,

I am glad to hear you are on the mend. Be careful not to do too much too soon.

I bet your MRI wasn't pleasant with your headache. At least you had your music to help drown out that thumping. Let us know how the MRI turns out.

Good luck with the DLA.

Take care,

Howdy Meryl,
I am not at all sure of the propriety of writing this but....
Thank you for shocking me out of my case of self-pity. You are a remarkable person and an inspiration.
May things improve and your load lighten.

Hi Douglas

Thank you for your very kind words, so glad that my situation has helped you in some way.

Like you I have problems with self pity, but I can honestly say that by having a Brain Haemorrhage and being so close to death I have now started to look at things differently, I now try to take each day as it comes and value what I have. If I cannot manage to do much one day then I just think so what it will be done another time.

The Haemorrhage was a massive shock, because I only seemed to focus on Lupus and no other sickness every entered my head, but what shocked me most of all when I came round was seeing the other women on my hospital ward who were in a far worse condition than I was, at least I still had the power of speach and movement which most of them didn't have.

I hope I can carry on with this attitude when I am having a bad day, who knows as it is early days yet, but I intend trying.

Once again thank you for your kind words

Take care and be kind to yourself

Hi Meryl,

I hope you are going ok (or at least as good as can be expected) :foryou:

Good luck with your DLA application.

Do you have any results yet from the MRI? During all your tests to help diagnose Lupus did they run some for the clotting antibodies (anti-cardiolipin & lupus anticoagulant)? Just wondered because whilst your hemorrhage may have been unrelated if you have those antibodies then it's very likely the cause of the hemorrhage. Likewise if you had vasculitis in your brain, that can cause hemorrhage. Just thinking out loud and hope you get some more insight into what's been happening

Thank you for your good wishes Lily and Kirsty.

Lily I have not had any results yet from my MRI, but I have an appointment with the Neurosurgeon next Wednesday the 25th so no doubt he will have the results then.

You have actually made me think now regarding the cause of the Haemorrhage because last July a Registrar at the Hospital looked through my records and asked for a Lupus anticoagulant test to be done, when the results came through the test was positive, I was then told that the test had to be repeated after 6 weeks, which it was,but this time the test was negative which confused me, because the second test was negative nothing was done about it.

When I had the Haemorrhage I asked what could have caused it and was told they didn't know, they just mentioned stress or medication. I think the problem is that I was sent to another Hospital who were only dealing with the Haemorrhage and didn't know a lot about my Lupus, so when I see the Neurosurgeon next week I will have a list of questions to ask him, I need to get to the bottom of this.

I am not sure what the MRI will show up, they had asked for a Head and full Spine scan, why a full Spine scan I don't know so I am not sure what they are looking for.

I will let you know what results they come up with.

Take care

Hi Meryl,

The doctor is being cautious with the spinal scan. Reports have been made of brain hemorrhages after spinal surgery and spinal fluid leaks and so on. Most likely they are doing it to rule out any problem in the spine being a contributing factor.

Good luck with you appointment on the 25th.

Take care,
Lazylegs
