I have chronic blefaritis and was wondering what kind of threatment there is for it.
My eye doctor tells me to clean my eyes with babyshampoo and use a warm compress.
I use a eye gel and eye dropps.
My eyes get so red bloodshot at time I can barely see straight because it hurts.
Any advice on this?

Hello

Are you using Hypromellose eye drops and Chloramphenicol eye ointment / gel, Vlinder?

I think you can get both at any chemists and they are not expensive.

The important thing is to make sure your hands are really really clean before cleaning around the outside of your eye with ordinary saline solution first to get rid of any crusty / sticky bits before administering the gel or drops. Use separate cotton wool balls / gauze squares for each eye - do not go from one eye to the other with the same ball / gauze. You could boil some water to make sure it is clean, let it cool, then add a small amount of salt instead of buying saline solution, but with the drops and gel clean plain cooled boiled water is probably good enough.

Make sure the applicators do not touch your eye and change the bottle or tube regularly. I do not keep mine for longer than a week - 10 days in case I have touched my eyes with the applicators and contaminated the solution / gel. The product is only sterile as long as it is unopened and most products will eventually grow germs, which you can reintroduce to your eyes.

It is also useful to keep the left and right eye applicators separate and labelled LEFT and RIGHT to reduce the risk of passing infection from one eye to the other and constantly cross contaminating your eyes.

I am sorry your eyes are so sore - it's blooming awful when your eyes hurt.

Take care

Hi Clare,
I have been to the eye doctor many times, there is no Sjogren's.
There is nothing she can do for me.
Have seen two different eye doctors.
Whats the link you gave me?
I see a page but not with info on eyes?

Hi

I am sorry I clean forgot that you have to register to view Medscape articles
Registration is free. There are several other articles online with similar content. I thought this one was quite good. It is a useful site.

Do you mean you haven't been offered any treatment for the blepharitis at all ?

Bye for now :)

Clare
I have the eye gel and drops that's all she gave me.The second doc I went to said the same:(
