Hi all,
I really hope you can help me with something my blood pressure is usually around 90-100 over 70 but lately it is going up to 127-130 over 88 -90 this has never happened in my life. My temperature is going from 95-98 (98 is high for me 97 is my normal) a few times it went to 100 which I know lupus can do I have my first appointment with an RA doctor. My regular doctor knows nothing about Lupus thinks you can tell by a blood test if you have lupus would not look at my history. So I have no one to ask questions that I have.
Thank you

Marsha, you wouldn't want my BP 167-159-120 nothing serious. This was my pressure taken at home before I went in to see my idiot doctor.

They have strict levels now 134-80. The first two numbers are important. I am on BP meds, and mine are not near normal. Yours from what I can see are still within normal. Stress will cause your BP to rise. Stress is your worst enemy with Lupus.

Hi Marsha

Your BP is still fairly within acceptable limits although sometimes these things can be relative, i.e. it depends on what is your usual 'normal'. Pain can increase your BP and it could be one explanation for this current increase. I think one of your posts today mentioned you had a lot of pain?

It sounds like you have your own BP monitor at home? If so I would suggest keeping a record of your readings. You dont have to be over-zealous about it but its a good idea to take a reading on waking up and then a reading sometime later during the day (try and keep it at roughly the same time). Then you can get a better idea if your BP is keeping stable within a particular range or if its fluctuating a lot.

Take care

Thank you Joan,
My blood pressure is usually 100/77 or lower since I was 19 and I took it this morning it was 88/73. I like your suggestion so I will do that thank you.

Hi Gerri,
No I would not but I have never had HP my father has as well as all my family but no me but I have always been active inbetween my illnesses.
Thank you so much for your input. Today my heart was weird which I would have thought my HP would have been up that is why I took it but it was low but my pulse was way up but I was alittle freaked this morning so I understood that.

Dear Marsha,

Personally, stress and pain have increased my blood pressure (see what it is before you go to the dentist!) to higher than normal levels. Get guidance from your doctor about what levels are normal and don't panic as long as you are in that range. Anything outside that range is worth noting and also paying attention to what's happening when you take it.

Also, my BP has been low when I have been on my pain meds.

Good luck.

Hi All,
I have noticed a gradual creep up in my blood pressure too since becoming ill. It always used to be dead cert 110/70 nearly everytime. I had it checked today at a hospital appt and it was 138/88 and its been nearer that figure the last few times I 've had it checked too. No one has mentioned it as a concern though but I am definately keeping my own eye it! I think one off ups are not too much to worry about especially if stress or pain is a factor.
I am just keeping an eye on mione as I have gained loads of weight aswell in the last year.
I would menton it to your gp next time you see him/her if you are still concerned. Try not to worry.

Take Care

Hi Monica,
I am not on pain medication. I am on medication for migraines but my doctor said it would not make a difference on my BP. My BP is always always 107/77 since I was 18 years old now I am 50 it is going up. I only drink water and two cups at the most of green tea a day. I am a vegan I was a runner until 5 years ago RA made me stop but went into remission until 5 months ago when all the head stuff started now my joints are starting to get involved.
So my BP going up makes no sense but my EO% white blood which is suppose to be .8-6.0% is 14.7% double what it is suppose to be. Something going on but my doctor said she will just recheck in 6 weeks she doesn't give me much answers.
Thank you for help with what I have been through for the last 5 months no much can stress me anymonre.

Hi Marsha,

I would keep an eye on it but not get too obsessed with it. As we age it's normal for our BP to go up a little, but if it's in acceptable levels still (and yours appears to be) then they don't usually worry about it too much. Pain is well known to increase it and I know the times my pain has been high my BP has gone up considerably. Mine is usually very very good for my age (I'm 51) but it has gone up on the odd occassion but come down just as quickly.

love

Hi Marsha,
yes I totally agree with Lily. Not to become obsessed with it but just take note of it to see if a trend is visible overtime that may be relating to medications or pain or other factors.

I hope you get more of an idea when you see the specialist but in the mean time don't stress over it especially as it is within normal range.

Take Care

I have issues with hypertension as well and I am only 24. But I blame mine mostly on the fact that I have extreme pain from Interstitial Cystitis.

I had trouble finding one for awhile that didn't hurt my bladder, so I wasn't taking any...my BP would be anywhere from 150-170 for the top number and 100-130 for the bottom. one time I had a reading of 169/140...thank god I was at the hospital...

anyways I hope you figure out whats going on.

Take care.

Thank you all for your replies. I think it has allot to do with my migraines they are always with me and they are worse right now. I am not worrying about my BP right now that is the worse of my problems my neurologist has up my migraine medication at night hoping to control my migraines but I can still fill them there.
So I take one day at at time.

My blood pressure had always run low until after I got sick. Pain is a biggy for me (and stress) which makes the pain worse and that makes the stress worse and there goes the bloodpressure. Caffiene didn't help things as I was a Diet Coke addict. I had to give that up due to stomach problems so bad that I kept having major chest pain. Last summer I went to my doc hoping to get a different stomach med. and she basically said she wasn't going to do anything different until I gave up Caffiene. It was really tough, but it did help a lot. I've been on Prazosin for nightmares and bloodpressure probs for about a year. I've been having a whole bunch of weird symtoms so my gp decided to have me try going off of it. I guess we'll see if going off of caffiene will be enough to keep me from having to go on a different blood pressure med. My problem was my bottom number. A few times it was up over 100. I am not what causes one to be high and the other to be almost o.k. Do any of you know? Also are there any health risk differences between having a high Top OR bottom number???

I don't know if this is what is happening but my bp was fluctuation quite often during the day making me dizzy with chest pain and other side effects. It ended up being my lupus affecting my autonomic nervous system. I had to be put on Toprol to keep my bp steady throughout the day, even though it didn't get high.

My blood pressure has risen too and I now have to be monitored. I'm sure mine is simply due to joint pain and stress.

For what it's worth, when I had Pre-Eclampsia, I swear to god that the very sight/sound of the blood pressure monitor being wheeled towards me every 15 minutes was enough to send my blood pressure up!

Stress won't help your blood pressure or other symptoms xx

Thinking about you xx
