This may be a delicate subject, but something I've wondered about since reading about lupus. Anytime I think to post about it...I start reading other posts and forget!

When you read about SLE (lupus), it always mentions weight loss as a symptom. Yet, it seems that so many of us have weight problems. So I'm curious as to how many of us are slightly more round than we should be! I hope that puts it delicately as I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings. I am VERY round these days! Though thankfully, not as much as I used to be.

So please tell us how you consider yourself...

Thin / Average / Little on the pudgy side / Overweight

I'll go first. My name is Polly and I am overweight!

Thanks!! Pollyanna

My goodness...so many different answers! In fact some of you remind me that even though I've been fighting weight ALL my life...there was a time in my twenties that I lost a good amount all at once. I went from a size 16 dress down to a size 8; a difference of five sizes. Big loss. But then very soon after that "flare" went away; the weight came back on and hasn't left yet...it most definitely has over-stayed its welcome!

Last August, I finally had the lap-band procedure done and I've lost 65 pounds, so it's finally coming off...albeit slowly and hopefully, healthy.

Keep posting and maybe soon a pattern will present itself! Thanks so much!

Love ya, Pollyanna

Ya'll are Great!

I've been absent due to illness for a few days. But now I'm back and WOW! :wow: We are certainly a mixed lot aren't we.

Primrose: I love to eat too, so our eating patterns sound a bit alike...

lin: So sorry your weight loss is taking it's sorry time...but we love you!

peony: Love your description of your body, but am sorry you are feeling low. It will get better but remember that depression runs with lupus...

chantel: Yippee for you!! :champagne: Good to hear you are coming off the pred!

wheelie: And you are right...size doesn't matter. Haven't I heard that before?? :wink2:

Tom: Thank you Tom. And it's good to hear from the fellas on this. So who will start the weight loss thread?? Not me! I think about it enough as it is! :eek:hno:

Pauline: me too!

Emmalee: That's ok...my baby fat is still with me 20 years later!

Jirel: Been there right with you...don't you let any "names" get to you...you are wonderful just the way you are!

Duck: Hugs for you. At least you are headed in the right direction with the nutritionist and working out. I had your same problem about a year ago. Saw an endocrinologist who is now treating me for hypothyroidism and suddenly I was able to slowly lose weight whilst doing what you're doing. Hang in there!

Alwin & Karen: Weight loss and maintenance after 40 stinks. Period. As I am now entering the second half of my first century (heehee, makes 50 sound ANCIENT doesn't it! ) it just clings to me! grrrr :hissy: Doesn't matter if I eat well, exercise, whatever. Now I'm thinking that I just need to learn to love me...just the way I am. Hopefully we all can. :p

June, Stacie, Sal, Sobo: You certainly have my sympathy. But I love the AA analogy - too funny!

And Soundy. I just read your post for the first time, while typing the above. You sound JUST like me! It was my right vestibular nerve that was resected and had to re-learn how to walk, etc. Oh wow. I've never met anyone with the same issues like you. Would love to chat or pm. My surgery was in Jan, 1995, so I may have some answers for you as well. You certainly have my sympathy though. It is not an easy road.

Thank you all for sharing your stories. I know that sometimes it is a painful topic for some of us, so hugs to you all! :grouphug: And know that size really doesn't matter so long as you are as healthy as YOU can be. The best thing we can do for ourselves is love ourselves. Big or small. Thanks again. :love2:
