Hi Everyone,

Its been along time since I've been here hope all is doing well.I have had right leg problem for 4 years now but for the last 4 monthe I've had constant pain down my leg along with at least 3 charley horses a week.My question is could it be related to neuropathy, clotting, oxygen or dehydration. It just seems strange that it can go on this long.I also have stiffness, numbness and tingling along with pain while walking. So I'm hoping maybe a nurse or doctor SOMEONE with information can help me or do I sound crazy.

Thank you,
Mary

Mary,

Sounds like a trip to the Rheumy or your GP is in order. There could be a variety of different issues going on with your leg. Since it has been a long term issue and progressively getting worse, or that is at least how I take it, it could be a neuropathy, restless leg syndrome, chronic pain from the lupus or even a spine problem. I definately believe it is worth a visit to your doctor to get to the bottom of it and get you some relief.

Nancy,

Thank you for responding.I do have an appointment for Tuesday to see the Rheumy.I do have to say ever since she took me off Methotrexate in November I've been feeling alot of things going on like I tingling and numbness, have had 2 colds, chills all the time, temp. has been 96.1 and my leg.I'm even thinking about calling the GP today and getting some blood work taken also.

I also have had alot of leg problems starting back in 2004 since the car accident damage to the L4-L5 S-1 then I had a bakers cyst behind my knee therapy hasn't helped so I'm just not sure but it is sure getting old with the pain.

Thank you,
Mary

Hi Mary,
I know this sounds crazy but try a tablespoon of peanutbutter everyday. When my boss told me I about fell out of my chair laughing, but I tried it and the leg cramps seem to be gone. I get one every now and then but not nearly like I did. Let me know if it helps you if you decide to try it.

Hi Mary,

Leg cramps can have many causes. I had a serious bout of them a couple of years ago and it turned out I needed to raise my calcium intake. After a few days of increasing the dosage the cramps subsided.

Now when I have them they seem to stem more from neurological problems. Since you had damage in your lower spine previously you might want to eliminate that as a cause.

Since your are going to have your bloods done they should look at your potassium, magnesuim and electrolytes. It is possible you are low in one of the areas.

In the meantime some light stretching can help relax the muscle. I find heat helps also. Dry or moist, either seems to do the trick.

Take care,

Lazylegs is right in that there are many reasons why this may be happening. Vitamin D deficiency, B-12 defiency, lack of potassium, etc...

I take 60mg daily of Baclofen for my muscles to help them relax.

I think the doctor needs to be made aware of this on going issue with you.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.:wink2:
