Hi all,

Just wondered if any of you have had chicken pox while being on steroids?

My 4 yr old daughter is covered and I am really worried about catching it, I only ever had them extremely mild as a child. I had a blood test on friday to check my anti-bodies but I don't get the results until Mon/Tues.
I have got a couple of red dots but nothing major as yet!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Thank you
Beci

I had a VERY mild case of chicken pox as a 6 week old infant. I think I had 3pox or so. The thing I wound up with was shingles when I was exposed to chicken pox. It is patches of blistering sores that cause a lot of nerve pain. If you experience anything like this get to the doc...

Hi. just thought I'd add to this!

Once you have had chicken pox mild or severe the chances of getting it again are very small.

However, Shingles is activated from stress etc, and you have to of had Chicken Pox prior to get this. Chicken Pox virus lays dormant in body and then gets reactivated under stress and viruses etc, and is not re-activated by someone close by having Chicken pox or indeed Shingles! People can't catch Shingles! There is a minute risk of chatching Chicken Pox from someone with Shingles if you have never had Chicken Pox, however in this instance it is not an airbourne infectious disease, its only contractable by touching the Shingle spots and then touching someone that has not had Chicken Pox.

Hopefully you won't be the small percentage that has Chicken Pox re-ocurring!

I myself had mild Chicken Pox as a child, all 4 of my kids had severe Chicken Pox and I did not take it again. However, due to Lupus etc, stress, viruses I have now had Shingles a few times in 1 year, no connection as stated above to kids having Chicken Pox.

Lets hope the red dots are caused by something else!

Let us know how you get on with the tests!
