It's a tricky question because if they are 'true' hot flashes (i.e. are a flash and don't last long) and you wake up soaked followed by chills then it's more likely hormonal. You would be having hot flashes in the day time then also. However we tend not to notice them as much in the day and can strip off a layer of clothes.
If they aren't so much flashes but long bursts of a feeling of burning up then I've found that is more indicative of my lupus flaring, especially when I had a high level of inflammation.
That's been my experience anyway.
