Hi

I have a quick question.

I live in the UK and was only diagnosed with lupus this summer. I've just got back from a week long trip to Russia and it was really cold and wet. I noticed my joint and muscle aches got much worse. Is this normal? It is getting cold in the UK now but I hadn't noticed this link before.

Thanks ;),

The last couple of years I have noticed this to be true for me too, but not before. I'm not sure why I didn't notice it or it didn't affect me before. In fact, cold damp weather nowadays is worse for me than hot sunny weather! The sun used to be what I noticed really triggered symptoms in the early years of this illness, but not so much anymore. Maybe the Plaquneil has really helped with that aspect of things.

OH YES! as the churchill dog says!

Over the last few years it has been getting gradually worse, last year wasn't too bad though it wasn't too cold. I can usually tell what the weather is like before I get out of bed. (have my very own barometer ). I am waiting to see what the summer is like (didn't really have one this year) but before I was Diagnosed I didn't cope with the heat either! Don't know if any other Loupies have the same problem?

Hi Meriel,
Yes!!! Without a doubt my joints are worse in the cold. However I also find that travelling can make it worse to. Plane, train or car journeys all seem to make me very achy.
I hope you had a good trip.

Phew...thought I was the only one!

I was so glad to read this posting! For the past week I've been experiencing EXTREME muscle and joint pain (It's getting cold here in Michigan). I take Plaquenil and Mobic which usually takes care of things. I hurt so bad last night (after working all day with preschoolers) I resorted to taking a Vicodin left over from a biopsy. It worked great but I'm calling my rheumy today cuz I don't want to depend on painkillers like that all the time. I'm hoping he can give me something else.

Thanks for easing my mind that it wasn't just me!

Same for me, the cold runs threw my bones and makes me ache. My knees also. I have been using a heating pad just to get me to relax my muscles.

Don't laugh, but i live in florida,:sunny: i would never survive back north! :shiver:

Warm hugs, Florie

Meriel,

I know how you feel and to answer your question yes moisture of an kind makes mine worse. The cold is a big factor for me also as I live in the usa and to top it all off the midwest. This is only one reason I don't like winter. I have no relief for this yet other than a pain pill that helps sometimes and a fluid pill. Best of luck to you in the up coming cool weather.
