I thought it was too good tobe true, not really had a bad flare for a while. Then on Tuesday my thumb was a bit sore but hey ho it will go away. By thursday night my hand looked like Tom's out of Tom and Gerry after he gets hit by a hammer. I couldn't brush my teeth , my hair and I was cry the pain was so bad. Next morning off to my GP. to get my ref. to my Rheumy who I Have had for 20 yrs....only to be told since 1st Nov only private patients. To say the least I was 'gobsmaked'..It's now Friday lunchtime before Xmas. couldn't get in anywhere....going dizzy, nausea, faint my GP. quicky gave me 50mg cortisone and pain killers. SEnt me off to the local hospital to the Rhema dept. they didn't want to see me as they said I had a Rheuma DR. after almost passing out on the floor they agreed to see me on Monday. after I get all my medical charts from DR. so back to him, get my charts, and I', basically medicating myself, took 40 mg. tdy and will take 30 mg tmrrw. I hope this is O:K. the hot red rash is slowly going...so it looks better.
I always get mixed up with name of the oath that Dt. have to take....but I think my version is better,
It really is 'A Hypocritical ' oath:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

 Oh my gosh! Are you saying that after seeing this doctor for 20 years, they just stopped treating you because of your insurance? Am I reading your post correctly?

Perhaps this is a sign from the universe that it is time to get a new rheumy!

At least you had some prednisone to treat yourself with - really isn't it all they ever do for us anyways?

Be well

Unfortunately that happens. It sounds like someone at your former rheumy's office dropped the ball, as all patients should have been informed a few months ahead of time that he would only be taking private patients effective Nov 1st to give those unable to go the private route time to locate another doctor.

Very frustrating position for you to be in - and I'm sorry you lost a treasured doctor that you trust. Perhaps you can at least get him to make a recommendation for a new rheumy? Hopefully the doctor you will be able to see soon will be a gem and there will be no more concerns. I'm glad your GP did something to help you in the interim.

Best wishes for improvement soon and a good doctor appt on Monday. Let us know how it goes!

Hi Marika,

I am very sorry, that happened to you, and at the worst possible time.:(

I hope you are feeling much better, by the time I post this.

Your poor thumb.:(

Please get back to us, and let us know..how it works out for you.

I am relieved to know, you have pain relievers. Rest, and rest some more.

I know, almost impossible, during this holiday season, isn't it?

So sorry this happened to you yet it does not surprise me at all.

These insurances companies are cruel and this happens to a lot of people.

Let us know how the doctors appointment goes.

I wish you luck in getting on to better health.:wink2:

Well I have been back to the Hospital tdy.....they were really angry with my Ex. DR....please understand the insurance company pay that is not the problem...it was the DR. he will only take PRIVATE pts....much more money than us lowly plebs with normal insurance.......................

Anyway....I now have a super dooper new DR. who can't underastand why I haven't been given other meds, besides pred. made an appointment to have a bone scan, , pescription for Vit. D and calcium, and bllod taken and new appointment in FEb...but if the swelling comes back to go right back there as there is always a Dr. on duty....can't get better than that.....so maybe this is the silver lining on my cloud...........................;);););)

Feel a lot better just have to taper off the pred. slowly......

Have a lovely holiday everyone...

Hello Marika

That is good news and you are right about unexpected silver linings. It is odd the way these things happen maybe your luck is starting to turn, I certainly hope so.
It's shocking that a doctor doesn't notify his patients he's going private only.
I hope you will get much better care in future.

Many Hugs

:stretch: You go girl! Guess this worked out in your favor in the end, and that is super news!! It's great you are so happy with your new doc, and that they a willing to investigate further treatment for you.

Phooey on that old doc - he may just run himself ( herself?) out of business, and that's just the way it should be if they weren't willing to give you the best care possible.

What a great early present for the holidays.
