I saw the rheumy today and a lot of my original symptoms are popping back up along with some new ones. It's been a year and a half since I started plaquenil and he wants me to make the decision whether to start methotrexate or not. We both decided that if I do, it would be the injections because I just can't tolerate pills much anymore and there is a question as to whether or not I'm absorbing them anyway. From what I've read while searching through this forum it seems that people are quite happy with it. I guess I just wanted to ask again ya'lls opinion of the side effects verses the benefits ... I know it's been asked before... but I think confirmation for myself would make me more comfortable.
Thanks,
Brenda

Do it ... Southern Belle Brenda. Anything is worth the try. I personally have been on the injections for about 9 months now, no regrets. At first , the day after or next day were wash outs ie: lots of fatique, and achy, so I do my weekly jab on Tuesdays. But now I usually don't have an after effect from the injection...I have other issues that take precedent so to speak. haha.

All the Best to you.

Yes, absolutely, try it. The eight pills I took didn't help nearly as much as the injections. They are said to be 20-30% more effective and I found that to be true. Since it bypasses your stomach altogether you shouldn't have any issues there. My problem with it is, because it works better, it also gave me a side effect I didn't have before...cold sores. It's suppressing my immune system enough to make them come out. I'm hoping to wean of the MTX once the Imuran kicks in to see if I can stop the cold sores, but if not, I'll be happy to go back to the MTX injections. It really did work for me.

Hello Brenda
I know it has helped lots of people and many find the injections preferable. Folic acid is pretty well universally prescribed to help reduce side effects. I hope it helps you

Good Luck

Hey Brenda,

I haven't tried metho injections personally but know someone with lupus who's on them and they've helped with most symptoms greatly. I think quite a few people on the forum are on metho shots too!

Best of luck with them! Hope they help you loads :)
