I feel a little silly asking but has anyone has had dry throat like there's something stuck in your throat? It's been like that for a several days now, and it seems to slowly getting worse. I already contacted my PCP so I might not get a response for until tomorrow. It's just so uncomfortable. I keep trying to swallow and it doesn't make it feel better.

HIya.. yes I had this for a while, would be fine some of the time then come back.. felt very irritating! Went to the GP who checked my neck and throat and said all is normal... it actually affected me when eating and drinking and could be quite painful at times to get food down. I then came on here and asked about it and one of the members was going to the Lupus Clinic in London and had same symptoms and asked for advice.. she got told it was probably an allergic response as we are so allergic as a population..:(.. anyway I have been trying to figure out if mine is.. and think it is as it comes and goes, now got to figure what causes it, so far think it could be white wine or asparagus!!! both I enjoy so we will see... best to go get yourself checked out by your GP though to ensure nothing obviously physically wrong... all the best,

I also have the dry throat all the time. I always thought it comes from some of my lupus medicines. I blame it on predisone. I drink lots of diet soda and water all the time trying to get rid of the dry throat. But more likely it is the lupus inflamming our salivary glands so they can't produce the needed moisture to our mouth, eyes, etc... My husband swears I am addicted to diet pepsi and this is just a way to fuel my need for that famous pepsi burn.

Good luck

Hi, I have had a dry throat for years, I have to take a bottle of water to bed as it wakes me up through the night! It is so annoying. I can hardly swallow food sometimes. I just drink plenty and carry sweets. I keep meaning to mention it to the doc. I hope your doc can help you.

Hi everyone,

I feel a little better that I'm not the only one. It's not the dry part that really worries me though, it's like there's something stuck in my throat. My doctor emailed me back and didn't know either but she thinks it may be from lupus. This is a little frustrating I guess. I woke up feeling better and then it came back. It may be because of lupus because it came about right after a flair started. I guess I'll just keep drinking a lot of liquids and hope it will eventually go away.

Hi Cinnia... I think it may be good to get checked out physically.. just a palpation of your throat and neck to ensure it all seems ok, at least then you can start to see if there is any pattern going on..just a thought..X

Hi Cinnia,

I agree with Claire, you should have go to your doc. and get it checked out.
Make sure there isn't swollen glands.

Take care,

I agree you need to have this checked. At times I have had this happen, and then it becomes very hard to take my pills without them getting stuck. Then, I have to go in and have my esophagus dialated.

One of the problems with connective tissue diseases is that we can get too many strictures around the esophagus. Then, get it "stretched" which breaks up the strictures. Good for another
5,000 miles!

I recommend you go to a gi specialist for diagnosis of this.

I also have this problem and it is a very new problem for me, like most of my symptoms. I've just been drinking water and diet soda and bring a liter bottle of water with me wherever I go. I also tend to eat fruits high in water content.

Hi,
I know how annoying and worry some the dry throat can be. I hope your doctor will find the reason and give you something to relieve that.
I always thought it may be from our meds. I use biotene mouth wash , and buy biotene gum to keep the moisture. It doesn't cure it but gives you some relief.
Hope you get back to us with your doctors answer on it.

Dry Throat

Hi Cinnia,
I was having problems with my throat. I felt like something was stuck in throat. Had endoscope and doctor said I was having esophagus spasms. Was really scary and painful. He put me on cardizem and told me to stay away from chocolate:( and coffee. My two favorite things. It finally went away. Every once a while I sneak a little chocolate and my throat hurts again. So I have learned to stay away from it. You need to have endoscope to see if you need to have throat stretched. I also ave acid reflux real bad. It will also make throat hurt. I hope you get well soon.:grhug: Diane
