I know this are signs of lupus but wanted to see if anyone else was feeling this all the time. I had my first lupus symptom in July of last year. It followed my miscarriage in June which was my 3rd one. I started having swelling and joint pain in my right index finger on a Wed morning and by Thursday morning it had moved up my right arm and the next day all over. It was so bad I could barely walk up the stairs. I went to the Dr after reviewing some info on webmd.com and had them run tests. He said I had inflammation and my ANA test was positive or high. He sent me to a rhem. and they said at that time it was 11.something so had gone down. They ran tests and at first told me everything was fine but then called to say that something was slight high and the 11. something and that if I were to get pregnant again that I would need to see a high risk doctor (nothing unusual since I was already seeing one for the last two pregnancies that were full term).

I had joint pain about a month later in my right index finger again but that is all it went to. I run a lot and noticed sometimes my shoulder joints would be a bit sore but nothing like before. I think that went on until Dec and then I have had nothing sense. Saturday I started feeling dizzy while walking with my family and from the knees down felt like jello. Had not eating in about 6 hours so figured that was it. Then Wed I did it again about an hour after lunch and was so bad I didn't know if I was giong to pass out or fall asleep. It lasted for about 30min and went away. Thursday I did it again about the same time and it was not as bad just a little dizzy. I called the Dr to do a BP and it was 112/62 so not bad. Iron was 14.9 so awesome and my blood sugar was 110 an hour after I ate and then 105 45min later. I had Gest. Diab with my last pregnancy so that is why I took my BS. Today (Fri) I am doing it again at 5pm and just ate 30min ago. I went to look at the sypmtoms for lupus thinking it could be related and saw it could be dizziness. I have realized it is when I have came inside so thought maybe that being out for a bit got me over done. I was just wondering if anyone else really has that issue. I had taken my blood again 3months later and it was 10. something so a little lower than before but that was also when I did not show signs. I really don't have that many signs of lupus that I know of but I know everyone is different. Please help shed some light on this. Is there anything I can take.

Hello and welcome :)

It's difficult to say what might be going on with you. As you say, you may lack some typical lupus symptoms (though the joint pain and sudden inflammation are perhaps quite significant).

It sounds like the tests you had earlier included lupus anticoagulant which is a test for APS (confusingly not for lupus) and which leads to greater risk in pregnancy as well as various other symptoms including headaches, TIAs, seizures...

The fact that you also had a positive ANA is also quite interesting. There it would depend on levels and whether other causes could be eliminated. The mystery joint pain and inflammation also needs taking into consideration.

Although you may well NOT have, it is important to know that lupus, and other auto-immune diseases, are extremely complex and people don't always have "typical" presentations, especially to begin with.

The dizziness and weakness you are getting sounds very familiar to me as I went through months of that type of symptom (on top of joint pain, mouth ulcers, photo sensitivity, severe fatigue....) as well as low BP for no apparent reason. In the end, I concluded that it must have been sheer exhaustion.

You can find a list of classification criteria here. I'm sure you are already familiar with it but it might help to see if anything "fits".

As you know that there is something wrong going on with your body I would make sure you make a nuisance of yourself at the docs. Ask him to run blood tests for anything systemic or auto-immune and see what comes back there. If you can I would also try and see a rheumatologist but on that score, I think that you need to see someone with a specialisation in auto-immune diseases rather than "just" a rheumy. I don't mean that badly, it's simply that many rheumies lack the experience necessary to think outside the box and dig a bit.

I hope that helps a bit - it is difficult to know where to start and your main symptoms are quite confusing.

bye for now,
Katharine

Welcome to the site.

My first thought was to have your ears checked, but that would not have made your legs feel like mush when you were walking. I definitely would not let these symptoms go by without further examination. Due to your past tests I would start with a rheumy. If that doesn't get you anywhere I suggest getting a referral to see a neurologist.

Take care,

It seems as if you have be having a few symptoms of the lupus. There are a number of reasons for dizziness: meds, getting up to fast or sitting down too fast, heat, dehydration, low sugar levels at the time, not eating right or enough, and as you can see the list goes on and on. Some of these can also cause fatigue or a feeling of being tired. You have done the right thing by getting a doctor on the case to find out what is going on.

I do hope that you feel better soon and that they find an answer to your problems.
