after one week past after my period, i got up one morning went to the bathroom and was surprised to see dark brown discharge it went on the whole weekend and went away. now im having stabbing pain on my lower back.

it comes and it goes suddenly. it started this morning and went on this same way throughout the day. has anybody ever experienced this. would like to hear about your experience. i was on antibiotics for an infection underneath my breast. Can the antibiotics cause another infection? should i be worried about this.:( :( :worried: :worried:

Hi Sushi,

It is a good idea to tell your doctor about this. Any mid cycle bleeding should be reported.

Do you use a form of contraception? I had frequent mid cycle bleeding when using the mini pill (progesterone only). I believe it can also happen with an IUD.

Unless you have a fever or smelly discharge, it probably isn't infection, and no the antibiotics should not cause another infection elsewhere - quite the opposite in fact.

Let us know how you are getting on.

It is definitely something you should mention to your GP. Of course I don't do what I say myself though. I don't know how old you are? I'm in the perimenopausal time, with a very erratic cycle now, and I have found that in the last couple of years any period I have had has been fairly normal for the usual length of time, and then has just dragged on and on with little bits of that dark brown bleeding every few days for several weeks. What I am imagining it is, is that instead of my uterus starting to build up its lining again after a period prior to next ovulation, it is continuing to shed bits and bleed. Given that I have only had I think 4 periods in the last two years, and the last two were eight months apart, it does seem to me to be just a menopausal thing. I probably should still mention it to GP, but I have decided myself that as it is a normal pattern for me now, then I can't be bothered. I did have a lower abdominal ultrasound recently for another reason and that didn't show anything, so that reassures me too. I'm not particularly keen on having yet another referral to another specialist, when I am still waiting on a rheumatology one.

I suspect that if it worries you enough to ask about it on these message boards, then it would really be a good idea to check with your GP.

Hi Sushi,

A couple of years before i was diagnosed i had very strange periods. In the beginning it seemed i only had a couple of days between periods. It never seemed to end. Doctor said if its not too heavy then don't worry body is changing,, i'm getting older.

Then the year before dx'ed i had periods like your experiencing,, brown spots not real periods right after having a normal period.
Then it was a period here,, a period there,, one this month,, 3 months later another,, 6 months later another one. til a whole year would pass and i had no period.

But then the strangest thing happened when a friend of mine told me she had bad cramps,, the next day i had my period,,, but didn't have one anymore after that

i'm 45 and i don't have periods anymore and I'm not complaining.

Sounds like is quite a common perimenopausal thing then. I went 8 months between the last periods, and then just had another one. Sometimes I feel like I am going to keep on having one a year for the rest of my life! Hope not though.

i definetly think its a premenaposal thing. the dark discharge is not there anymore and the back pain is gone. today i go get an ultrasound
of my breasts. doctors orders, she said my breasts felt lumpy what ever that means.

im thinking its probably a menaposal thing.
