Hi all,

My GP called me today to advise that he has managed to get me an appointment tomorrow to see a rheumy at Birmingham's City Hospital!
I was really shocked but extremely grateful too!! I went to see him the end of last week and ended up in floods of tears!! My appointment is at 10.30 so i'm hoping he will start me on something I am still waiting for my appointment to come through for London to.

That's good news - clearly you have a good GP. Sara is right - Birmingham is a centre of excellence with some very well known rheumatologists. I hope you get some answers.

Good luck

I've been!!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all ok?

Just to say thank you for all your well wishes, I went to my rheumy appointment today and he was fantastic! He said that he is 90% sure that I have Lupus he has started me on steroids 20mg a day I have had lots of blood taken and some chest and throat x-rays as my glands are extremely infected?? and I am also having lots of trouble with my chest. I was really pleased with how it went he was very understanding and very thorough. I have got an appointment to see him again in 4 weeks, he will also have my results from the tests I have had today. He said that my other ANA test had come back positive. I don't think that I am going to go to London after seeing him today he was excellent. I finally feel like I am getting somewhere.

Hi Beci,

It is great that you found a doctor that you think you can work with. I hope the steroids give you some quick relief with minimal side effects.

Take care,

Hi Beci

So very pleased you have had a great appointment.
I go to my local rheumy and lupus clinic (in Manchester) and they are so good I have never felt the need to go to London. I think there are definitely other options than the big smoke for lupus treatment in the UK.

Hope the steroids work quickly, I started on them again about two weeks ago and my energy is a lot better. Not got rid of the headache though so may need a higher dose.

Have a really good week and bathe in the security of knowing you have a specialist you like. :)

Love from
Sara

just wanted to say im glad your visit to rhuemie went well, now hopefuly you can get the help you need. I know how difficult it is when you feel no one is taking you seriously, i went through the same thing with my illness and broke down in front of my dr after being unwell for ages. I am now on plaquinil and feel heaps better.

Dear Beci, It is great to hear such a positive experience. You will give encouragement to others who are waiting for first appointments. I am so glad for you. I hope the steroids soon make you feel a changed woman. The first time I took them the effect was miraculous.

Hi BECI,
That is brilliant.
And that is exactly how it shoud be for everyone. It so sad thats oem people get treated so badly.
But its truly great for you that the doc was thorough and left you feeling confident in his abilities.
I think it makes things easier to deal with not having to battle doctors and a health system aswell as disease!!

Good for you.

Good Luck when you back.

Take Care

Cassie :)
