I have been dealing with what I call the "head thing" and clued in today "I wonder if it is Lupus related".

Basically, it seems like vertigo, but I don't have the spinning. Sometimes I have to sit for an hour or so for it to pass. I get it just from moving around in the kitchen, making supper (bending over) or doing dishes (going back and forth from the dish tray to the cupboard. I just get lightheaded, fuzzy and sometimes nausea, but rarely.

It started in the middle of February when I was diagnosed with diabetes from the prednisone. At the time my vision was extremely blurry so I couldn't function at all (thank goodness for good husbands). It took several weeks, but the blurriness went away and it was blamed on my high blood sugars. The "head thing" never went away. Both my family doctor and endocrinologist do not think it is related to the diabetes. I saw an ears, nose and throat specialis yesterday and he said my hearing and ears were find. He is going to send me for a balance test, just in case there is a problem there.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? It is very annoying. I can't function or drive most times when this happens. And it happens pretty much every day.

Thanks.

Hi Nutty,

That must be awful to allways feel that way.... I have had light headness in the past but not for long periods of time... I will get it and then not have it happen again for a month or so...
My girlfriend had what sounds like what you are talking about... Her's was inner ear imbalance... But I am sure yours isn't since you have seen an ear doctor...
I am sorry I can't help you.. but I wanted to let you know I am thinking of you and I hope you can get it solved soon, so you can feel better...

Take care

love Penny

Benign Positional Vertigo

Hi Nutty. I'm a regular "lurker", don't often post, but I do like to follow along with everyone.

Just wanted to let you know that I have had bouts of this myself - comes and goes, but was told it was benign positional vertigo. If I leaned my head at a certain angle, I could actually bring it on! It was very disconcerting!

I would certainly speak with your docs about it though. Anytime your equilibrim is comprised it could have serious ramifications (one of my scariest was having it happen while I was in the bath and couldn't figure out which way was "up". So, it could indeed be Lupus related, probably nothing too serious, but certainly worth looking into if it happens often.

Best of luck ...

one thing I can help with is the eye blurring - it is very common with prednisone, so that may have been going on. My eyes generally straighten out as my dose comes down.

The vertigo thing sounds horrible though ....

cheers

Thanks Lara and Raglet.

Thought it was just me....going crazy again. It seems so much like vertigo, but not.

I forgot that prednisone can cause blurry vision as well. That's why it took so long to diagnose my diabetes because I could associate the signs with side effects of the drugs I am taking.

This is so complicated:worried:

Thanks again.

I know this feeling well. Does it feel just like the feeling before the spinning would start only you don't get the spinning? Does it happen if you tilt your head back or to the side or roll over in bed? If this is the case it probably is benign positional vertigo. What I have found that helps me is to take a combo of anti-anxiety meds and decongestants. Feel better.
