I have had Lupus for over 12 months and I am 30 years old...it has been quite a life changing experience, as before, i was very active person, now i have to take each day as it comes and that is very hard when i have 3 children.

Anyway..I look forward to meeting new friends.

HI Anne and welcome. I am new here also. I have had SLE for 11 years , now with lung involvement. Your right, it is life altering, especially with little ones to care for. I was a pre-school teacher for 26 years and almost 5 years ago had to give it up.My Rhumy put me on disability. I went into a deep depression for 1 year....My heart was in teaching but my body just tired out. If I could go back, I would have followed my MDs. advise more closely along with meds. I started out on Plaquenil. For the first several years , with the exception of fatique, I felt great. Now, looking back, I realize I was living in denial. This site is so comforting, knowing I am not alone. Always here for you, Rose

hi Anne,
Welcome to the site. I hope you find it helpful and easy to find answers to your questions. I hope you join us in the chat room sometime and share your story and pick our brains.

Yes, a dx of lupus is life changing for the most part. You have the idea by taking one day at a time even with 3 children. It is never easy to find out you have a disease when your are also a mom. Just remember health first and kids of course. I hope you are feeling well and doing well.

:Welcome: Anne

I am happy you have decided to join us. Please feel free to post any questions you might have. The members are a very friendly group and are more than willing to help if they can.

Dealing with Lupus is more difficult when you have little ones around. The most important thing for you to remember is that you try to get plenty of rest. Even a quick 10 minutes of laying down with your eyes closed periodically during the day will help.

Hope to see you in chat.

Take care,
Lazylegs

Hi Anne, from a fellow "newbie"...just wanted to say hi and that I so can relate to the "life change"...I have only had the "formal" diagnosis of SLE w/ Secondary Sjogren's for a short while...but I was diagnosed with Chronic Interstitial Cystitis(IC) in 2003...it is a bladder disease, incurable and not sure of the cause...may be auto-immune also...
Looking back, I am sure I have been paddling a boat down the ole "river of denial" for a while myself...lol...sometimes it seems like forever that I felt "good"...other times like it was yesterday...I have found some great help in a few books I have on chronic illness, etc...and just reminding myself this is "me" I am talking about...I must say that everyone here has been very welcoming...
Take care,
I
