Hello,
I'm off on holiday for a month next week (woop!). Unfortunately my last dose of rituximab doesn't seem to have done much (or hasn't kicked in yet, if I'm feeling optimistic...) I've been limping for the past few days because of the pain in my knees, I've got a lovely malar rash etc etc. I can't go back on aza because my wcc was knocked out by the cyclo I had with the rituximab, so my only options are steroids and painkillers at the moment.

So - any tips on avoiding getting worse while I'm away (not going isn't an option!). I've got lots of high factor suncream, more steroids than I need just in case, enough painkillers to sink a horse, a hat (but I might get one with spf - any suggestions?), and comprehensive travel insurance. Am I missing anything?

Cheers :hehe:

Hi Fairy,

An entire month off sounds wonderful. Where are you going on holiday?

It sounds like you are pretty set. I'd say a good pair of sunglasses are in order. Definitely get a hat with a wide brim and spf. Also remember to stay hydrated. Don't forget your feet. A sunburnt foot can spoil the day.

Have a great time.

I would add taking the mindset that this holiday is to relax and rejuvenate and if you are very sun sensitive and going to a warm sunny place then you may want to look into buying some SPF clothing or buy the laundry detergent that adds some sun protection to your current clothes.

Have a great break from everyday life! I'm jealous! :)

Fairy,
I am not sure if you have it over were you are but, I would grab a few therma care patches. They are like icy hot or a heating pad without the cord or the mess. Don't forget to get rest when you need it and oh yeah let us know how it went when you come back. Have fun and stay healthy.

Hi Fairy :)

I hope you have a wonderful time on your holiday! Your post sounds so upbeat and cheery - you must be absolutely living for it!

Here's my few tips:

1. Bring along a copy of your prescription just in case you are stopped with that amount of painkillers ;)
2. A good book or two for those times when you need to rest those knees and others might be out boogying...(hopefully you will never even get to read a chapter of it :hehe:)
3. If you are flying then its not a bad idea to wear a surgical type mask. Those planes are full of germs:worried: I swear everytime I fly I pick up something nasty
4. Dont know if you suffer from any bowel problems but if you do take some anti diarrohea tablets just in case

Other than that I would say just go forth and enjoy every lovely moment of your holiday :hehe: Just bring me back something small and gold

Have a ball!

Thanks!

I'm feeling a bit more confident about it today, I'm ridiculously overexcited to be honest  I'm off to New Zealand - 24 hours on a plane will be a killer but it'll be worth it (and yep, I'm fully expecting to pickup all sorts of bugs...) I've got a copy of my prescriptions because I'll be carrying a small pharmacy in my hand luggage, hopefully I won't get stopped at customs :hehe: It's going to be a very active holiday, so probably completely unsuitable at the moment, but sod it - the thought of it has kept me going for the past few months. I'll just collapse in a heap when I get home:rotfl:

Hope you all have a very healthy few weeks :hehe:

Hi again Fairy :)

You will absolutely love it! Which island are you going to? North or South? I spent a bit of time in the South Island a few years ago and I loved it!

If you are in the South Island, check out Hanmer Springs. Absolutely magical! Naturally heated thermal pools which were to die for! There is nothing so magical as sitting in an open air heated pool looking up at the snow on the mountains :)

Heres a link for you:

Also the Queen Charlotte Drive is not to be missed. :)

Hi Joan,

We're going to both north and south - basically we're trying to fit in as much as we can in the time we've got... Thanks for the tips - those springs look lovely :)

Eeeek can't wait :hehe:
