Hi all. I didn't take my weekly MTX injection on Sunday because I've started Imuran. The RD said I was going to get worse before I get better because it takes time for the Imuran to kick in, just like it did with the MTX and the Plaquenil. I've read that it can take several months but I'd like to hear from the Imuran veterans here. How long was it before you started to feel its benefits? It's only 24 hours since I missed my MTX dose and I'm in a world of hurt already. I'm not looking forward to months of feeling like this.

Thanks Lin. I'm on 100 daily right now and after two weeks of that I can go up to 150 mg. I have a call in to the RD asking if I can go straight to the 150 mg. rather than wait the two full weeks. I'm doing OK with the 100 mg. so far and am anxious to get "up to speed" with the Imuran.

I hope you'll be able to wean yourself off of the prednisone eventually. It seems no one wants to be on it long term, or should be.

I take 150mg of azathioprine and at the time when I started I was on 40mg of steriods as well. In the past 3 years I have weaned off the steriods and felt a big improvement of the Azathioprine after about 9/10 weeks. I suddenly thought to myself I actually feel well. Hope you get some relief shortly, but you cannot hurry these things, everyone is different.

Thanks birdie. I suspect you're right and it's going to take a few months. I guess I was hoping to hear some people say it kicked in after only a week or so. Not that I would be that lucky, I wasn't with the MTX and Plaq., but it was a hope. Just grasping at a straw, I guess.

HI Jesse,

For me it was pretty fast. I saw a big difference after 4 weeks and even more of one after 6-8.

I hope that it works well for you,
Katharine

You know, brain fog, I can't even remember but I would have to say probably months before noticed. Hmm I 'll have to go back and read my own posts and see if I said anything about that one !

Thanks everyone. I had called the RD because of my returning symptoms and he put me back on MTX until the Imuran kicks in. RATS!! I hate to go back on it but he said it was important to stop the inflammation, which will cause permanent damage. The whole point of going on the Imuran was to get off the MTX but you know what they say about the plans of mice and men. So, I'll just hope the Imuran works quickly so I can get off the MTX.
