I think the statistics are that only 20-30% of SLE patients will test positive to anti-Smith, and about 50% will test positive to dsDNA.

I'm negative on both, but high positive on ANA and moderate-high positive on anti-cardiolipins. All others have been negative (or at the low levels found in healthy people).

I wonder if our group is representative of the statistics given for these two antibodies in the general lupus population and if they do have more CNS and kidney disease associated with them.
I'm plain old ANA and anti-Ro.

I have the Anti DsDna antibodies but not Anti-Sm
Also have Anti-Ro and ANA positive
I've voted appropriately on the poll

I don't think I've even had those tests. I have positive ANA, speckled pattern, positive ANCA myleperoxidase, positive rheumatoid factor (160), barely positive PTT(LAC) screen. I seem to remember reading somewhere that one of the more definitive lupus tests aren't usually done if you have a speckled pattern ANA. Should I be asking for the tests listed above?

positive on anti-ds-dna and I have occaisionally tested positive for anti-sm (but then I have only been tested for it occaisionally).

I am a veritable antibody machine - I can never remember them all - also lupus anticoagulant, anticardiolipins, SSA, SSa,ANA's of course (at times even two different populations of them - 1280 usually), that anti-p thingy (the one that is linked to cns disease), low levels RNP, etc etc. I can never remember them all. Makes dx very simple so in many ways I am lucky, but the flip side is that they sure do a lot of damage.

cheers

As Maia already said, the stats are about one third anti- Sm with them being more common in blacks according to UK ( and some USA ) sources and about 50% ds- DNA so why would a majority here have them ? This forum is almost certainly not a typical cross section of all those with lupus and definitely not in one very obvious respect - there are far fewer blacks than whites as far as we can tell, whereas statistically there should be four or even five times more.

I forgot that I have developed anti cardiolipin ABs and once had higher than normal ds-DNA. Heaven knows what that was about. :hehe:

Hi Raglet,

The things that have come back abnormal for me have been ANA, RNP, SCL70, Anti-cardiolipin IgM, B2 Glycoprotein IgM, and DRVVT which I believe is a Lupus Anticoagulant test. My C3 and C4 complement levels have been good sometimes and just slightly low other times.
