Hi was wondering if anyone has experienced a flare that involves being super allergic to everything?

Even on 40mg of Prednisone, 10-15mg of Antihistamine and 10mg of other anti allergy drug am still swelling-up rashing-up, with anything but brown rice, chicken and veg, can't even drink sparkling water without lips swelling and mouth tingling....

I expect the joint pain, and numbness and headlumps and dry eyes etc,but this is new. wasn't sure it was a flare as wasn't wiped and didn't feel dreadfully ill like last time, but then got increasingly allergic to everything, perfume is worst, and then got an ANA back of 1:2560 so thought ah!

Would be greatful for any advice. Rheumatologist wants me to drop down the steroids but am worried will end up in a hermetically sealed bubble on a drip.
:(

On the plus side am losing about a lb a day!

yes yes yes yes yes :hehe:

Foods, perfumes, cremes, animals, dust, Humans:lol:, you name it i'm allergic.
I am especally bad when I'm flaring but even when I am not my diet is limited to most veg, most fruit and meat. I can also tolerate some rice every so often. I was a veggie for years before all this developed but as I cant eat soya or nuts my rummy advised me to start eating meat. I hated the idea at first but I can honestly say it was definatly the right decision.

Its probably not the advice you want to hear but I just stay away from anything that causes a reaction. I dont eat foods that cause problems, I dont have perfumes, nuts, air fresheners, ect in the house and I am very careful what I put on my skin.
So far I have been able to avoid the bubble and i'm down to 6mg of pred
and antihistamine when needed:)

Hope things get better soon

Josephine,
I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time. Is the doctors worried at all about you loosing too much weight to fast as the healthy loose is a pound a week at most 2 a week. It was just a question and don't want to add to your worries. I hope that things go well with the lowering of the preds. I also hope that you feel better soon and can eat something that you have been missing all this time.

allergic reactions

Hi Josephine,

Sorry to hear you’re unwell. As far as being allergic to everything I have had that in the past. I have been in hospitals, back and forth to doctors with rashes and allergic reactions since the age of 22. I have been treated with everything under the sun and still it all continued. One day I went to a doctor and he told me to take a cold medication that I took in the past and I told him I can’t because I break out in a rash. He said that is silly as because all it contains is antihistamines and paracetamol/Tylenol. He further said we know your not allergic to paracetamol/Tylenol and it is impossible to be allergic to antihistamines because your body naturally produces them. I took it as he directed and was back there to see him in less then an hour to prove my point. Problem finally solved!!!! After all these years of suffering it was determined I was reacting to the antihistamines. I can’t take anything like Tylenol PM, Nytol, anything with dyphenhidramine, Benadryl, puriton, clariton, allegra and so on. We have tried all these products in the past and I had an allergic reaction. Who says you can’t be allergic or sensitive to what your body makes naturally, I am. I am not suggesting you stop taking the medications prescribed without doctors knowledge as it can be very dangerous especially when dealing with allergic reactions. It is something that I experienced and I though it could be food for thought if you look back into your medical history and see if what I went through makes any sense in your situation.

Hope you get to the bottom of it!

I've not gotten to the extent you have, but my allergies were going off the richter scale of normal things. At one point, my doctor had me tested for allergies.......well, I was allergic to nothing of the stuff they tested. I told him it would not be worth while. I humored him, and he agreed it was not normal to the "usual" stuff.
He, at the onset, suggested I get rid of my cats. I told him when he got rid of his 4 children, and no longer claimed them, then I would THINK about his suggestion. He didn't and neither did I. I am not allergic to them anyway.
Pollens......yup, allergic to most of them. BUT, I can garden and do fine that way, but not inside with flowers. I am ok with my christmas cactus plants (3 varieties) but they are the only flowers that do not cause me to have allergies. I am allergic to tree pollens and corn pollen. Otherwise, as long as they are outside, I can garden. I am surrounded by trees, but when they bloom, I just add in another dose of allergy meds. I also find that the methotrexate helps me to keep the allergies under control as well as the lupus.

I hope that you find things settle down for you as the weather warms a bit.

would like more information...

K, here are my thoughts...

I was told by my sister that there are certain conditions where someone is totally allergic and reacts to everything. She also said she as a dental assistant had run into one of these people, and it has led me to want to find out more information about these types of illnesses and patients...

Briefly she described meeting a patient that had...

Abnormal hoarse voice that doesn't go away (Possibly vocal chord dysfunction, and/or with sposmatic dysphonia, related to nerves and brain signals)
Asthma,
allergic conditions with multiple allergies
possible relation to types of e. esophogitis...however you spell it
respiratory, and/or chest pain
possibly others and unknowns here...

That was pretty much the conidtions described by this person my sister met, and it actually fits me and my condition perfectly...except I haven't been tested for E. esophogotis or whatever its called...I don't think I have lupus...hopefully; but its clear that I always have such a bad respiratory condition that I'm trying to find people with similar sounding background in order to find out more about what's going on with me. I may have gone to the wrong chat board but your post seemed interesting and dealing with allergies so I thought I would respond.

So if someone has multiple allergies and already has a huge list of allergies...what direction should they be looking in? What illnesses should they start looking at; particularly when they won't respond to treatments of existing conditions that should work, such as not responding to asthma medication, etc...? What are those types of illnesses that are similar to conditions with these types of profiles, (if you want to call it that)?

When I had done an allergy test a year or two ago with an asthma clinic, I tested allergic to 80% of their list of about 50 items...I'm not sure where that fits in with other people with allergies and people who are super reactive, or what direction I should go in.

I have not yet tested for allergens in food, on a food type allergy skin test and believe that I need to do this soon, and it might help with the respiratory problems I'm having...though I've already been avoiding anything milk, dary, and most wheat products...but not really any progress...

I'm not sure if this helps with your condition or not but its possible that certain patients exist that have multiple illnesses that are feeding each other and going off at the same time and maybe this is the case with you...
